What time does your early workout day start?

Some of you are probably going to laugh at this, but I recently shifted from working out at 8:30 or 9:00 to working out in the "early morning" at 7:15 or 7:30. (My gym only opens at 7:00 a.m.) When my training partner and my trainer suggested this, my first thought was, "how in the hell am I going to manage that... I'll have to get up by 6:30 at the very latest. But now that I've been doing it for a couple of weeks, I have to say that I love it. I love the fact that I don't have to wait to get onto the equipment I need and I love finishing and having the full day ahead of me still.

Having said all that, I'm wondering just how early some of you more dedicated guys are getting started in the morning and is that regular, or only occasionally.

I get to the gym by 5:00 am, spend a good hour plus steam room and shower time, then breakfast before heading to the office by 7:30 or 8:00 am.

It's really easy to find equipment at that hour...

ok I know this is really sick - but the guy who owns the gym was a competetive body builder in the1950s and he likes to work out early - REALLY early. So the official time for the gym to open is 4 a.m. - but he can't wait so he opens at 3! And there's about 40 of us there every morning - this is one of the best gyms in the world - The owner Red Lerille, keeps adding and adding stuff - it's like a mall now.
Anyway ever since I started doing this I get an amazing amount done, not just in my training, but at school and work too.

I feel you Marshi. If no one's waiting for me, that tends to be my routine as well.

Am I reading this right? Are you getting there at 4 a.m. or even earlier? Every day?

Certain athletes train twice a day, so the first session is very early. The people who start at 3a.m. will train again later in the day - some of them are competetive body builders or triathletes. I just happen to find that I get a great workout and have a very productive day this way. I train about 5 days a week, 6 tops and less when work or school is very busy.

It depends on whether or not I've had a nap, how much work, school work etc. there is - but a normal night would be from about 7pm to 1am. If I need to stay up I have some coffee or I'll close my eyes for a half hour & rest. I know it sounds strange, but trying to live on everyone elses' schedule is really more difficult than just giving in to what my body seems to want to do. I work at home, that makes a big difference.

My "early" workout would probably begin around 9 p.m. lol! Since I'm in class until 10, early workouts are rather infrequent. Not to mention, I am sooooo not a morning person!

Right now I am working with a trainer, and we start at 2pm. However, when that finishes I will go back to my old schedule.

I get up at 4am....shower (that's my coffee), and come to life.

I get to the gym by 5am, and workout until 6:30 am

Back to the house by 6:45 I shower again, get ready for work...and start work at 8am.

I love early morning workouts!! This way I have the rest of the day to do whatever else needs to be done...and when 8pm comes I can be a couch potato and don't feel badly about it one bit!

I get up around 6 to get to the gym between 6h45 and 7h00.

This is a habit I got into when I first moved to London 9 yrs ago, and my morning commute was hellish: if I wanted to get to the office for 9 it meant leaving my house at 7h45 and spending an hour on the bus.

So I joined a gym near my office and started leaving for work before 6h30; my commute took 12-15 min and I had a full hour or so to work out and shower before heading to the office.

Now I can't imagine training after work--instead I get to the office feeling like I've already accomplished something each day.

OMG. That sounds like the epitome of torture to me. Seriously. I normally go to BED 3 hours before you wake up. haha.... some people are morning people. I am not one of them.

And yes...I am one of those morning people that just wakes up wide eyed, and cheery. I have been threatened with bodily harm, had ice daggers thrown from just woken up eyes, even had them levitate off the bed and had their heads spin around while telling me to leave them the f**k alone.

Yeah, if you don't like upbeat morning people you will probably want to stay away from me.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I'm at the gym starting arount 8:30AM, Saturdays I start at 6:00AM so I can get my work out in, make breakfast and go back to sleep or bundle up on the couch with coffee and a book.

Absolutely agree!! I find it hard to motivate myself to do anything overly ambitious in the evenings (workweek anyway). Although that said, when I started taking night school I found the 3-4 hours I spent there really invigorating, and can't wait to start that up again after Christmas.

Even on weekends I tend to get up by 7h00 or 7h30 at the latest, even if I don't leave the house until much later--or at all. LOL

I work out at 11.30-12pm at the moment. In chile it used to be at about 4pm. I hate early morning lifting as I have to get up insanely early to eat so i donĀ“t collapse during the squats...

When i used to do kung fu/taiji I used to start at 5am

CollegeKid, that photo is hysterical... you manage to look adorable and disoriented at the same time.

Thanks guys, I'm glad to see that it seems to be possible to work out at just about any time of the day (or night) if it fits your rhythm.
