To make a long story short...
The meeting is for for about 40 people to discuss "something" about the Caribbean Islands. Representatives of the different Islands will be there along with us few Americans.

We have to pick a country/ city to have this 3 day meeting.

    It's a pretty healthy budget for this one-time meeting/conference,

I'm the unfortunate person who has to make the city/ hotel / and restaurant choice...and I have to go to this meeting. ( poor me ) LOLicon_lol.gif

The Caribbbean is not my thing....eventhough I LOVE the beach and warm weather.
I was in Jamaica once...and too depressing.

    Suggestion as to what country?

I heard St. Barts is the most exclusive and gay friendly. ( The meeting is not about gay issues)

You never know....whomever gives me the best suggestion and we pick it....you make get to come with me. ;)

I like the idea of you going to the Dutch Antilles island of Curacao.
It may not be centrally located, but there's a multi-ethnic culture there and it's relatively gay-friendly.

Meanwhile, if centrality is key, why not the island of Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, or St. Croix...all three have beautiful coastlines, so, if you can find a good hotel available, you might have the option to explore the countryside, mountains there, and/or the beaches.

Best of luck, and, I hope you share with us where it ends up!

I can vouch for St. Martin has having beautiful beaches, an international feel, a heavy French/Dutch influence, and a fabulous restaurant scene. I preferred the French side, although we stayed at a super nice Westin resort on the Dutch side. Marigot is the capital of the French side, Grand Case is known for the cuisine on the French side, and Phillipsburg on the Dutch side is also crawling with restaurants and nightlife. All would be ideal places to host a Caribbean conference, methinks.

The Caribbean not your thing? WoW!!!! I suggest NYC or London then, but if you can't make it there.

    Barbados hands down.

I've been to many of the Caribbean islands many times over.

Barbados would be the perfect place to hold such a meeting.

    for restaurants:
    the cliff,
    aqua,
    the fish pot
the one at the hilton hotel

And if you want additional info on Barbados. let me know. I think I know the island like the back of my hand now

For quaint and a bit of the beaten track, but with reasonable conference facilities - try St.Kitts

I love the Caribbean and am a partner in homes in The Cayman Islands, Antigua and Grenada. For easy logistics and plenty of good restaurants (as well as great beaches and opportunities for excursions), Grand Cayman is hard to beat. You also needn't worry about disturbing scenes of poverty as the average resident of Grand Cayman has an annual income higher than his or her US counterparts!

Other places you might consider would be Barbados and St Lucia, both of which have some great hotels and restaurants.

If you want any specific recommendations for hotels, restaurants and/or excursions on Grand Cayman, just send me a private note and I will send you what I've got.

    Go to Aruba

Quite a few hotels, which means you should find good bargains.

They speak English and accept the American dollar everywhere.

Population is educated, so there's little poverty.

Beautiful beaches and a great place for down time.

Only bad part is that there is only one gay bar.

Not into the Caribbean? WTF you are probably one of a few.

And yet you like beaches????? That's one massive dichotomy. How is this possible?

Take the group to Mexico, London, Paris or NYC, or DC as a matter of course.

If God forbid it must be done in the Caribbean - Barbados Bermuda or the Bahamas.

Don't like the Caribbean... well I never.....

Give me your travel arrangements. I'll take them to the Caribbean myself. icon_smile.gif

This is more about the logistics of things rather than the location, but it kind of ties in...

...pick somewhere easy for the majority of people attending to get to. And then pick hotels that are close to restaurants and other hotels. Delegates wil probably use this chance to have meetings with one another about other issues, so it's good if they're able to do this without to much fuss.

    Good luck!

    Apparently. Who da hell knows?

As I said what the hell do I know with some of these guys. He claims he likes beaches but is not into the Caribbean. A location that has arguably some of the best beaches in the world.

What about ST Lucia...It was beautiful! I stayed at a new Hyatt Regency on Rodney Bay back in 2000 and it was the bomb with swimup rooms...
