Someone just told me this morning that back when Fran was like 23 she was raped in her home and her b/f was tied down and forced to watch...i figured that it was just a celeb rumor sorta like the ones that say jamie lee curtis and ciara are hermaphrodites.
So i looked it up online and its true (says so in her bio).....My friend also said wen it happened that the rapist choked her so hard that it "cracked" her voice box and thats why she sounds like she does (all squeeky and raspy)..

I love Fran Drescher, i think shes funny as hell and I def used to watch the Nanny growing up lol...Have u guys ever heard this story/rumor b4? Is it possible to ''crack'' ones voicebox??

don't know about the voice box thing, but I knew she was raped, however there have been cases where after a traumatic experience peoples voices have changed and remained that way, Fran Drescher isn't the only one though oprah winfrey was a victim of rape too..

Yes, she was a victim of rape. (And the perpetrators made her husband watch.)

No, her voice was not a result of that heinous crime.

Were the perpetrators caught and convicted? I didn't know this.

Whenever I do an accented voice, I have certain key words that get me started. When I want to do New York City, I say "Fran Drescher."

As a voice student I was always taught that it's imperative to protect your voice box, so I'd assume it's highly likely to crush some one's voice box in a choke hold.

I read her autobiography, and she says her voice has always been that way.

I like her; the Nanny was a funny show and I actually liked Beautician and the Beast hehe

I think that athere are definitely some moments in your life that would change your vocal projection or speech patterns. I haven't really known about many things that would change them permanently, but I know that I've experienced voice changes after moletation and near death experiences.

I always remember a 3 Musketeers commercial Fran did that emphasized how the candy bar had fewer calories, less fat, etc. In the ad, she said (I'm paraphrasing)

"People always ask me why I pay so much attention to what I eat and I tell them that when you sound like this, you have to look good!"

Gotta love a gal who can laugh at herself.

i dont know about her voice in particular, but it's really eady to damage one's voicebox.

I worked with a guy a ferw years back that I thought was cute and he had a real effeminate voice. i assumed he was at the very least bi, and we got to talking about it and he explained it was from a surgery. he was kind of embarassed as he claimed that girls ask him that too, he even said when he asked a girl out once she was like "oh I thought you were like...gay"

haha. he works at the adult toy store in town now which is totally awesome when we go in to buy our super kinky stuff that I'd kind of like to keep private. oh well.

Dudes I'm lovin' The Nanny on Nick@Nite! I watch it during the week alot. Though yeah it, among other sitcoms, I grew up on (meaning my mom would have it on couple of the televisions in the house).
