I was at a friend's birthday party and one of my best friend's was there. He's gorgeous (albeit really skinny) and as far as I've known he's very straight.

But he brought up Tom of Finland at this gathering, I asked him when he said that name (of course I know it) about where he heard it. He kept saying "don't ask" "don't ask" and I kept pressing (we both had drunken heavily but I'm the interrogating kind) and he said he just knows about it.

So where the hell do straight guys know about this stuff?

tom of Finland was a known artist, while people might classify his work as homoerotic it doesn't mean that no one outside of "gay society" will know about him.

few of my mates know who he is because they've been exposed to artists of all types during there up bringing.

I used to have a Tom of Finland badge on the back of one of my motorcycles, along with other pins & badges, mostly gay pride material. It wasn't overt porno or his art work, just his name with a stylized dick design on it. All the gay stuff was very subtle, too, just enough to alert "Family" to me, but not tip-off the bad guys. LOL! Cycles are very easy to vandalize when parked.

But my partner has a 12"-tall Tom of Finland doll on a stand, wearing a leather outfit with an unnaturally huge, Finland-sized boner sticking out his pants, that used to be displayed on a shelf in our dressing room. He wouldn't put it away when the (allegedly) straight exterminator guy would make his monthly visit, which made me feel awkward, so there's one guy who could read the "Tom of Finland" plaque on the base and get an idea what Finland was about. (Though I don't think Finland produced anything but graphic art himself during his lifetime, the doll created by someone with the rights to the name, I would presume, perhaps the Foundation)

My partner finally relented when we hired a straight female housekeeper. He had to admit the doll might be offensive to her, so now it sits in my office, where she never cleans. (Nor do I; what a mess!). I hate the tacky thing, and now it's buried under junk where I don't have to look at it. icon_razz.gif

This happened to me too! At the office of my previous job, a new employee was hired to be on our team of about 9 people. The new guy's name was Sean. A couple weeks later the "straight" guy that sat next to me asked what Sean's last name was so that he can send an email to the team. I started thinking out loud the "Sean"'s that I knew, and I said "Sean.....Sean Cody?". I knew the name from somewhere, but forgot it was a porn site!

Lol, well the guy next to me knew exactly what I was talking about and thought it was funny and said "oh, we know what you've been downloading lately!". I think afterwards he caught himself and didn't say a word about it again.

That would be my fault, sorry O.o

I bought this HUGE ToF book cause it's just so awesome and it's lying about on my buddy's coffee table atm. I'm slowly infecting the straight people O.o

but if your buddy was so insistent on not telling you - i think he might not be that straight after all icon_smile.gif

Speaking of ToF - the ToF Foundation's (sorta-)annual art show's due date is ... tomorrow. I was going to enter but i realy DON'T like how the online submissions work (put credit card info in the email? no thanks..) so i had bought the afore-mentioned book for um... reference icon_eek.gif

Haha I remember I was at work talking to a coworker and my boss was present. We were talking about Mixed Martial Arts.... but because of my past with wrestling I called it "MMF"... f for federation.

Well my coworker is an idiot but my boss spoke up and was like "that stands for--" then my coworker said "Mixed Martial Arts".

The boss looked uncomfortable for all of two minutes. It was funny.

These guys. They're like the Barbie dolls for men. Wide shoulders, big chest, big arms, giant bubble glutes and Elephant Man worthy endowments.

Taschen published a great set of books on Tom of Finland.

    http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/sex/reading_room/147.the_complete_tom_of_finland.1.html

The ever-wise Benedikt Taschen made the decision to put this work in the mainstream with the clout of a major publishing house behind it. Many people who wouldn't have otherwise known the work have now seen it.

He probably accidentally found it while Googling for porn.

Also, I can't remember exactly. But I think there was a Tom Of Finland reference in Family Guy. Or some other mainstream TV show.

He also had a few straight/bi comics, a couple of the Kake ones, if I am not mistaken.

His Tom of Finland doll? Not sure how, it would be blocked on Photobucket. Maybe I could emasculate it, pop the dick off, and leave the rest to your imagination?

I'd heard of him long before I figured out who I was. His work did nothing for me then or now.

I actually know a lot of things because I read. Visiting forums is just part of my reading. I read books, web pages, magazines, anything. I can't stand to just sit. It's amazing how much someone can soak up just by random reading.
