TRENTON -- The New Jersey gay marriage proposal will be considered Monday by a Senate committee and could be posted for a full senate vote later in the week, state Sen. Ray Lesniak said today.

On Monday in the Judiciary Committee, we're going to vote on marriage equality, Lesniak (D-Union) said, while making the announcement to a crowd of gay marriage supporters on the Statehouse steps today.

On Thursday (Dec. 10) the full Senate is going to vote on marriage equality, said Lesniak, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. And God be willing, we'll have 21 votes.

Democratic officials previously said they would not put the legislation to a vote unless they had the support needed to pass it.

Well, I hope it happens since NJ is my native state. There is something in the NJ psyche that could make the legislature pass this just to spite NY.

Hopefully the New Jersey state senate is much more progressive in its thinking and is willing to take the bull by the horns and pass legislation allowing gay marriage in the Garden State. I hope they do pass it and make New York's retarded, dysfunctional state senate look like a bunch of primitive minded, backward hicks.

I'm not in an optimistic mood these days in light of recent events. We are not nearly as mainstreamed as we might have thought if we can't get marriage equality in New York or California, arguably the most liberal states in America...

Jarhead, both New York and California are not as liberal or progressive as they are both percieved to be. There are a fairly large number of right wing conservatives in both New York and California. Unfortunately, those narrow-minded, bible thumping screwballs are a lot more influencial in both Sacramento and Albany then previously thought. The states that already have gay marriage are more liberal and progressive than California and New York.

I have every intention of smiting every politician who votes against marriage equality in New Jersey on Monday. Their goose is cooked. When I created them in the womb, I knew how they would vote. It's part of my divine plan and I shan't reveal it to you. Toodle loo.
