So the track "Single Ladies" by the Sasha Fierce got a nom for Best Record of the Year on this year's Grammy's.
Can I get reminded WHY the gays love that song?

Why!? "Single Ladies" can turn bad moods into good moods and frowns into smiles. It may get played a lot, but it is definitely a local, national, and global hit.

Beyonce will win record of the year but album of the year will go to Taylor. Even with 10 grammy nominations I think that Beyonce deserves her dues, there hasnt been an album that has had more hit singles since MJ's Thriller.

"Single Ladies" is a phenomena that swept POP CULTURE not just gay culture.

She's a thief! she doesn't deserve anything! she needs to start paying all the other artist back that she stole from!

she does pay respect to all the greats. its no secret that she has been inspired by Tina Turner, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, the Supremes, Janet, TLC etc etc etc etc.

the whole point of innovation is to re-invent something that is already great. otherwise music as it is remains blah. thats why so many other artists suck. they dont evolve.

If it's a true innovation, wouldn't there be nothing like it previously? If there's anyone nowadays that is an innovator, I'd have to go with Lady Gaga, but even she is taking on elements of previous artists. My problem with Beyonce is that she keeps stealing from herself so to me all of her songs sound the same. It's pretty easy to blend seamlessly from one song to another. She's not all that people make her out to be in my opinion.

I wouldn't say pay respect as much as blatantly steal.

Smash into you and about were also stolen! along with her video concepts and the fact she claimed she wrote a song Ne-Yo wrote for her. One that I like.

Added to the fact she speaks horrible, I'm not a native english speaker and I'm sure I could write better then her.

I agree you with you 100% I'm a Gaga monster! I did like Beyonce, but she doesn't steal from herself, but others!

invention is doing something new and unfounded.

innovation is taking something that already exists and doing it differently.

I agree that Gaga invented her style of music, although in 10 years I dont see her performing on stage and creating ground breaking music. no sense in debating over and over, if you dont like Beyonce... fine. But she did get 10 nominations from the Grammys. its a joyous occassion for her, i think its extremely tacky to down play someone elses hard work.

I think" Halo "was nominated for record of the year and "Single Ladies" for song of the year. Anyway, the song is great and it's catchy as hell. Her and Gaga at least try to bring something different to the table for fans.

I recall the song being popular with everyone, not just 'the gays.'

It's cute. It's fun. It's functions as an anthem, like many of Madonna's better songs (Express Yourself, Vogue, Music, etc.,) in that they embody a single idea that appeals to many listeners in many different contexts.

Stealing is fine... it's making good music that counts

Now listen to Kid Rock's single, which I liked

Or The Clash's 'Straight to Hell'

Sound familiar? MIA's 'Paper Planes' is SUCH AN AWESOME SONG TOO.
