In an apparent effort to get gay, currently active members of the military to testify before Congress, regarding DADT, this spring, a bill has been drafted to give "witness immunity" to the gay service member. The legislation is authored by U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., and so far has secured 27 Democratic co-sponsors for his “Honest and Open Testimony Act.” .
Here is the article that I am referring to: http://www.365gay.com/news/witness-immunity-sought-for-gay-service-members/

The only link I have found so far, with the text of this Bill is located here http://www.scribd.com/doc/23522480/Honest-and-Open-Testimony-Act-Congressman-Alcee-L-Hastings
I guess my question is what are the actual steps to being chosen as a witness to testify before Congress? and if this bill will actually grant immunity to prosecution under DADT...why wouldn't EVERY single gay service person immediately volunteer and be granted the immunity...creating a "de-facto" recinding of DADT for the current gay service
members? Help me understand some of the finer nuances of testifying before Congress....Thanks.

It's not really testifying. It's a front for congressional speed dating.

They don't need to do this. We already have the first Purple Heart recipient from the Iraq War, amongst others, who isn't on duty any more, outspoken against DADT. If his credentials aren't good enough, then what will a parade of active duty troops prove?

I sometimes imagine myself getting awarded the Medal of Honor and then dropping the bombshell that I'm gay while the medal is around my neck.
