Well, having a Broadcasting degree and made films & videos myself, I was struck by several things that need explaining about this:
- The video camera was hand-held, not fixed surveillance, which means a fourth person was in that office, completing changing the dynamic.
- The rapid cuts between the students and the principal suggest a second camera, and a fifth person present. That would mean a considerable amount of pre-planning.
- The students walk in and don't comment on the presence of the camera operator(s), and never even look at the lens. Indeed, the camera initially precedes them into the office. That's not how people react in true reality situations. Rather, it suggests the boys were prepared and at least partly rehearsed.
- If this was planned, however, to what purpose? That I can't answer. But I wonder why the principal taped it at all, whether prearranged or not.
How did he know beforehand it would produce such a strange performance by these guys? Does he have someone tape every student brought to his office? Maybe it really did happen earlier, and this is a recreation? I don't know, but something isn't right about it.
