Can you bend your pinky without bending your ring finger?

I'm a musician i play mostly guitar, and it's not that bad not being able to do it, but when it comes to playing piano, it's really annoying. I know some people can, some people can't. What about you? And if you're a musician, how do you deal with it?

I can do it if I try really hard, but I can do it much easier on my left hand than my right. I play banjo, and this makes sense to me as my pinky and ring finger on my right hand don't do anything but hold my hand stable, while the fingers on my left hand are more practiced with chord changes and whatnot and working independently.

Yes I can, but I have to focus a bit to do it on my left hand.

My ring finger still bends a little bit when I extend my pinky, but I can play piano and a little guitar. -I think the little guitar is called a ukulele. icon_razz.gif

I can do the Vulcan greeting sign with my left hand, but I cannot with my right hand and I am right handed......talk about weird!

Yes, artist here. And the Vulcan salute too. And I can touch my wrist with my thumb with a bit of help. And I can wiggle my ears... alternately or together.

Do I get a medal or something?

I can on both hands, however, my ring finger feels physically compelled to bend but instead "locks" in place.
I played the guitar (poorly for a few years) and played the violin (well for several years) so I don't know if it has been conditioned to do that or if I am some physiological anomaly.

I can't do it...on either hand. I'm really distraught about this revelation. I was doing so well...now this icon_sad.gif Does anyone know of a support group I can go to that deals with people whose ring finger is a slave to their pinky? HELP!?!

I've heard that is an inherited trait much like being able to roll your tongue into a circle, or wiggle your ears...all which I can do. Might be mistaken.

BTW: Yes, on my left hand only. Used to be able to do both, but I'm right-handed & I write too much, so the tendons are tighter in that wrist.

PS: I can't carry a tune in a bucket, much less play any instruments. :-P
