This Christmas Tom Ford's Single Man is coming to the Big Screen

I am so looking forward to seeing this movie
It's based on the Christopher Isherwood Novel of the same name
and if you haven't read the novel .... as a gay man I suggest that you do

It speaks about the lonliness and mask wearing of everyone involved in life in general
and the movie looks like a gay Mad Man icon_cool.gif

For those of you who don't know Tom Ford

    http://www.tomford.com/

He's the man who's been behind Gucci

It stars Colin Firth as George who will be in the running for an Oscar for this role

And the perennial Julianne Moore who is fantastic in everything

Can't wait to see that. Trailer looks gorgeous.

I love his perfumes btw. I used to have M7 and now I use Tom Ford for men.

I saw the film yesterday. It's absolutely beautiful. Definitely the best major gay themed film to be released since Brokeback Mountain. I knew with Tom Ford directing that it would be beautiful to look at, but I was not expecting such depth of feeling. This guy is, much to my surprise, a natural born filmmaker. Very interesting article in last week's NY Times about how the film came to be. He got so sick of all the roadblocks put up in his way that he just ended up financing the whole damn thing himself. Guess that Gucci money came in handy. See this when it's released in your cities, guys, it lives up to the trailer!

Good eye! That's no coincidence. The Production Designer on A Single Man is also the Production Designer on Mad Men.

I just found out that it will be released in the UK in February! It could be much quicker.

Looking forward to this as well---Though I can't say that I will enjoy sitting through yet another Julianne Moore weeping jag--she has not done much of note since Safe, in my opinion--
Art direction looks fantastic--Some hints of Almodovar, if I can say that without coming off as a total douchbag--

Really?? Not even Far From Heaven? I thought she was magnificent in that film. But then again, I'm a sucker for, you know, really good acting. icon_wink.gif

JM is an amazing actress and I like CF as well. It's already playing here in NYC. Saw an ad in the paper yesterday.

Nah, come on. Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, The Hours, Far From Heaven. And she was pretty excellent on Thursday's 30 Rock.

So about A Single Man, I'm very excited to see the film. I bought the book about a month ago and read about 80 pages before I lost interest, but I'll pick it back up before I see the movie. The trailer is so well put together, I hope the movie is as high quality.

I was just reading on Gay.com that this movie was de-gayed the trailer. I wonder what parts did they take out?

This film was absolutely stunning, and I seriously haven't seen such meticulous set and costume design like this in quite some time. Colin Firth's acting was superb, and Julianne Moore was quite good as well. The score is also absolutely amazing.

The great thing about this film is that it is not about being gay at all. It is about suffering loss and finding moments of clarity that feed our will to live.

    SO GOOD!

Here's the actual [de-gayed] trailer. If I saw this trailer, I'd still be compelled to watch the film. It is unfortunate that this happened, as I highly doubt the type of audience that would be attracted to this type of art house affair would be turned off by gay subject matter, but the Weinsteins are usually pretty good with their marketing pushes, so if it gets them a bigger audience, I guess it's for the best.

I saw it last weekend, and I'd just suggest not to expect too much... it's always better to be surprised than disappointed anyway.

Some nice acting, some pretty scenes, but I didn't feel any emotion that one would expect from a film like this. Minor annoyances were the overblown score and the lack of development of the young student character (a character I thought was poorly acted too). Some scenes and techniques were very film school-y. Too long too.

I liked Julianne Moores hair though. Didn't realize she was so freckly either!

It's things like this that make me wish I lived in a real city again.

Does anyone know when this will be in wide release?

NPR just interviewed Mr. Ford the other day, very interesting and the movie sounds good. He's very progressive and made news a few years ago with an ad with a full frontal nude guy for Yves Saint Laurent M7 cologne.

    Tom Ford's A Single Man
is up for three Golden Globes
One each for the two male and female stars
Colin Firth as George and Julianne Moore as Charlotte
    and then for original score
