I know tons of you guys hate Walmart, but I was there so hey I wanted milk.

I was reminded of why I haven't bought milk at Walmart for a long time.

It has a "taste." Its gross and I don't know what it is. And yes every time I buy it, it has the "taste." I know I'm stupid for buying it again but its been like a year.

TG Lee Milk tastes great and Publix Milk tastes ok. I only buy skim milk from anywhere. I just don't know if I should drink it?

I remember years ago my mother decided to start buying 2% milk and then one day she bought regular milk. The results were devastating and comical as me and my brother both threw up! Haven't touched the stuff since and that was 15+ yrs ago.

    Wow, really?

I've switched from the two from time to time (I don't drink a lot of milk, anyways) and I didn't notice a difference.

Then again I inhale my food and lose weight. icon_redface.gif

I know what you mean about the food thing.

I'm struggling so much to stay at 170, lol.

I seriously have to weigh myself to make sure I'm NOT losing weight.

Is this whole milk, or reduced fat? Whole milk in the US should taste very similar everywhere. Reduced fat, however, is a different story.

Reduced fat milk is often fortified with other ingredients, in order to retain the texture of whole milk. That local mix can change your taste perception considerably. Local reduced fat milks are very different.

I've drunk 2%, 1% and skim milk around the US, and some versions are like white water, and some are indistinguishable from whole milk. If you don't like your Walmart offering, try another dairy. (And try someplace other than Walmart, OK? They're very anti-gay)

If you can't make a simple decision like, "This milk tastes weird, should I drink it ?", then
    A) You must be a Libra
    B) How do you make truly important decisions ?

Gotta say I love me milk still. I in summer time can drink up to 3 liters of milk a day, one liter of milk a day; just love the stuff.

Could it possibly have been UHT milk? It has a substantially different taste, but you get used to it. The distribution system can be a lot simpler and cheaper with UHT, so it seems like something that WalMart would get into.

The flavor is also dependent on the genetics of the animals and their diet. Milk from large dairies is managed to all taste the same, but smaller dairies can differ. And if the cows are pasture grazed (rather than on controlled rations) the flavor will change with the seasons. Ours always had a nasty taste of wild onions in the early spring.

Rumor has it that Starbucks has a contract with a particular dairy whose cows make unusually frothy milk.

Our family owned among other things a stake in a dairy, I hated as a kid visiting b/c we would have to drink raw milk.... bbbbbbaaaaaaaaarrrffffff. It was so gross, it would separate a bit and was so fatty you could see it coat the glass like mucous.

Now I rarely drink it at all, if I do, 1%.

Go for SILK Soy baby! Plain, Choco, Vanilla, Light, Health-Smart, Whatever. It's engineered to have nothing but a smooth, clean "Milky" taste and feel... As if there was Ever such a thing!

Agreed. "MELK" is gross. It's onea the only foods you put in your fridge that starts to taste more and more sketchy every time you pull it out of the fridge. Plus, Soymilk has a 60 day shelf life and shit, so you never have to reach for it worried about what you're gonna get. And soy beans don't spill blood and mucus when you squeeze their tits. icon_eek.gif

hehe. I grew up drinking raw milk. When I went to school and started getting the store-bought stuff, it was "eww gross!"

Now it's basically Safeway or Costco brand skimmed. About two gallons a week.

And you don't have to wander around in the rocky scrub oak... um, I mean "pasture" searching for the damn cows after school.

Hah! That's why you gotta mix in your steroid powder w/ soymilk. I never heard of that, but I'll research it. Scary! I heard from 2 dudes that smoking weed gives you man titties, too. I gave up that day, and stick to whiskey now. icon_lol.gif

Hehe, it took me a moment to recall that quote. I loved the Simpsons as a kid; however I've not seen a new episode in a number of years.

As a youngster, my mom always bought skim milk. At school, I switched between 2% and skim and could not tell the difference.

Nowadays, I usually get 1%. On occasion, I'll get 2% or skim. I honestly can't tell the difference in the milks. I chug at least 2 gallons of milk a week.

    Oh yeah...Wal-Mart sucks.
