Well the first thing that comes to my mind is 9/11.

    How about you?

The folly of Republicanism, leading to the decline of the US to a second-rate power in the world. And as a result, the dawn of the Century of China, a nation to which the US is now merely a vassal.

Cher's three year farewell tour, and I still couldn't get enough.

Seriously, the slow acceptance of climate change and the apathy to attempt to change; immediately comes to mind.

    Note from the OP:

OMG this seems to be a recurring theme already. I guess really.....it is true. We have fallen flat on our faces (Americans that is) .....not to mention education.

The Gays vs. The Entire Omniverse.

    The "Thug" look.

    Teenage pregnancy rates.

Repugs The Sequel : They Didn't Get Their Way.

The longest delayed slap to the collective face in decades.

Here are my themes that might define our life in the future decade:

    * Use of wireless comms across the globe - bandwidth mattering more than television and almost as much as soccer.

    * HIV and polulation explosion in Africa - poverty gap now greater than ever causing massive civil unrest but cheaper vacation deals to gated resort compounds.

    * Freaky weather and collapses in infrastructure, crops and public health - the habit of putting something aside for a rainy day again becoming the norm, except this time we learn not to put all eggs in one basket.

My last one is a hope more than a prediction: Religion will become an outdated model for organizing society since we will have to live a much more chaotically and responsive driven existence.

To my mind our past decade was dominated by a trade (logistics) revolution that gave global production/distribution unpresidented reach to affect cycle--times, reduce prices and shift wealth. Important yes, but 9/11 was not Pearl Habor.

The one thing that ties it all together .......

That we were led by the American Caligula and it ran us into the ground
    Financially
    Security wise
    and Morally

and it went by the name of George W Bush

In 2100 I am sure 9/11, the first African American President, and the rise of China as an economic power will be taught in history. Tiger Woods, Anna Nicole, and Jon and Kate will never be mentioned.
