porn industry and testing.

I was out of town this past weekend and met a guy. Things progressed fairly quickly and we ended up back at his place. After our encounter, he told me to look him up on another gay site, not RJ. Upon doing that, I found out that he is in the porn industry and just finished a major film in November. I guess I make a generalization about people in the porn industry as being more promiscuous, hence my increased concern for risk of exposure. I was interested in knowing if anyone knew if these actors are screened for HIV/STDs regularly or prior to filming?

I would imagine it depends on his employer. Of course, if you were safe, you have nothing to worry about!

From what I have read about the industry, it really depends on who you work for. Some, like the incomparable Chi Chi Larue, insist on condom use, so it isn't an issue. Other less sensible people do bareback porn and make their actors get tested... as if there was no period in which the virus can hide.

There is a big difference between getting plowed by eight guys all wearing condoms and being an eight man come-dump.

There's a lot of factors that go into it. As others have mentioned, some studios test and others don't. I've heard that there's a lot less testing in gay porn than straight porn because gay porn is more likely to use condoms. It really depends on what studio he's working for. No way of making a blanket policy statement on all studios. Also, just because he's in porn doesn't mean he's promiscuous in his private life. I've read of several porn stars being either celibate or monogamous in their personal lives. Of course, who knows if what they say in interviews is true. One thing I know for sure is that a lot of gay porn guys also do escorting. In fact, a lot of them do the porn just to give them the exposure they need to do the more lucrative escorting work. If that's a concern for you, you might want to find that out about him. However, if he's in porn or even escorting that doesn't mean that he's more likely to have HIV or other diseases. If he does it work, he's going to be more sure he uses protection than some random guy who drunkenly picks up guys in gay bars. He'll probably be more likely to have been tested too.

My experience with guys who work in porn is that they are sexually more free than most, and promiscuity is part of that freedom. If you had protected sex then you should rest comfortably that you're ok. If you're concerned get tested and confirm. Personally, it wouldn't be the sex he has "on camera" that I would be worried about but the flippant sex he has off camera where guidelines for safer sex are less likely to be adhered to.

A friend of mine did porn for a while, and he told me that they were required to be tested and have proof of it before they were allowed on the set.

LOL. Sounds like you're a porn star in the making. Depends who they work for, and how they take care of themselves, but, sure, folks who work in porn get tested, as do folks in other walks of life. If you're promiscuous, occupation isn't going to protect you. You'll need a condom for that.

This is gonna be cliche, but you can get it from anyone: porn star, librarian, male escort, a bf. Anyone if there is a question of promiscuity or no knowledge cause you don't know them, use protection.

Promiscuity isn't necessarily a good indication of whether someone has HIV. I know of escorts who have fucked half the nation and are still negative and others who only had sex one time and got it.

I know there is a risk with oral transmission, I do not wear protection for that. I don't do a lot of hooking up, I'm usually just out with friends to dance and hang out. I make exceptions to that on occasion depending on my attraction to the guy, this was definitely one of those "had to" moments. I'm newly single, so still getting used to the whole scene again and freshening up on all my STD facts. After 10 years of not dating or hooking up, the thought of all that stuff has been in the back of my mind. Like I said, I probably make generalizations about porn actors, but was just curious. With that being said, it would also be a comfort to know if he was recently tested in November. As far as the porn label, it's a major company and probably the first one that comes to my mind and I don't even watch porn. They don't do bareback.

    to guiltygear,

Just because I'm selective doesn't mean I'm a prude. I love hot man sex. He was the first black man I have ever been with and is in to the leather scene (hot). I love a new experience. So, no, just sucking it was not on the menuicon_wink.gif. The other part of that was with protection.

Sir, I did not say you were a prude. Obviously, you aren't. I was just trying to define a legitimate worry here. You used protection so why worry and if you did that, why not ask questions first? It goes hand in hand. You have the worry. You asked the question. I'm being uncharacteristically kind. Ride the wave.

No worries, it was a tongue in cheek remark just as yours was. I'm more of a flirt. If I'm out, I usually scan the room and have a top 3 list of guys that if I bumped in to and the opportunity presented itself then I'd go for it. He fit that bill, however, if I knew he did porn I probably wouldn't have slept with him. The oral and rimming stuff was all unprotected. My anxiety comes from my generalizations of porn actors being promiscuous (escorts) and therefore my curiosity is if they get tested since he just did a movie. I don't know how that industry works. I would just say, I'd be less concerned if they test and more concerned if they didn't.

There are other diseases that a person can be carrying and spreading to other people than just HIV. Condom use during sex is not enough to protect a person from certain diseases.

I also wouldn't trust porn industry standards.
For example, condom use during anal sex but no protective barrier during oral-anal sex?
