So many times in my life I've heard things like.. "That city just isn't friendly" or "People in the country are much friendlier than in the cities",

When I was in law school, I thought Topeka, KS was one of the most unfriendly places I'd seen... but then I was under a great deal of stress at the time. Is it all bs? Are people everywhere about the same or is there really something to the old adage?

Well, here is my take on it. I've lived and met people from all corners of the country and it is in my own humble opinion that people are people, just speak a bit differently depending on where they live. Although, since I live in Charlotte, NC (How the mighty #2 financial sector in the country has fallen), I tend to think folks in the south are a bit too friendly and way too intrusive (gossips).

Interesting Erik.... I've also been of the opinion that you make your own
"surroundings" depending on how you relate to others. If you are friendly, people are friendly back......

Great Neck, Long Island here. suburb of New york. When I went away or would meet people (especially college) It seemed that people always had the worst impression of people frm my home twn. It use to bother me to the point where I was extremely embarrassed to own up to it and would slam it myself before someone else got the chance. people tend to be somewhat obnoxious and leave really bad 1st impressions. Shit happens. I got over it so much so I moved back and bought a condo.

People are People wherever they be.....I have met many nice people here in Vegas....however, I have also met many not-so-nice......I would personally say that yes, living in a rural area people do tend to be a bit more friendly.....however as far as the gossip goes.....no one is immune....unless it's Vegas.....after all...What Happens In Vegas....

Around here, I wouldn't say that people are not friendly. I think people like to keep to themselves and not get into other people's business.

But if you were to stop and ask for directions or help, people will gladly oblige.
