I don't know much about that area either. I recommend checking the site yelp. It's really helpful when trying to find things to do, see, eat, etc in an area you're not familiar with.

Just a couple of weeks ago I took a 2500 mile road trip from South Carolina to California. The trip took 6 days, but I was taking my time too. I stopped at all of the major cities along the way and saw the sights and experienced as much of the local flavor as I could too.

In the future I'll probably take them to get to someone, but really never to get somewhere.

I've driven from Montreal to Moab Utah three times already.
roughly 3,400 km. Last April it took us 34 hours of non stop driving.
Fill up, get a coffee , restrooms etc , eat in the car.
We were 3 drivers which allows one to sleep in the back ( with very little room ) while another keeps company to the driver.

iPod, dvd's , laptop and a GPS ! are almost XXIst century essentials on long road trips. :p
oh and a good universal connector/adapter for all those power hungry gadgets.

biggest piece of advice: if you're a couple of drivers, never preset how long each one drives. Just drive till you're tired , as soon as you notice signs of fatigue , pass the wheel , even if it's only after an hour.

ah, try planning to arrive in the nice parts at sunrise. , i.e. the Rockies.
from Montreal to the mountains : it's flat, and straight. Usually the excitement of the day come in the shape of a 5 degree correction in steering. ( mild exaggeration, but it feels like it ).

So you are trying to go the entire distance from Montreal to Vancouver in 48 hours? Or that's just how many hours you estimate you will be in the car during the road trip? How long do you have?

I went on a 3 week road trip through the American South in August which was awesome.
    I made a docu-series about it which I posted on a thread here: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/627037/

As for the states you will be driving through I have only spent time in Wisconsin, and only in the southern part of the state at that.
Madison, the capital, is a really cool city worth checking out. If you like beer or are a fan of the TV show Laverne & Shirley then Milwaukee is a city to check out.
I hear good things about northern wisconsin but I've never made it up there as all my family lives in the southern part.

If you are interested in seeing offbeat tourist attractions the websitehttp://www.roadsideamerica.com/ provides a treasure trove of information on things to see. You can filter it by state and they have a handy map of where everything is. You can find out about some crazy shit on that website.

Good luck on the trip. I'm sure you'll have a blast. Take pics/vids and post them on here.

A girlfriend and I did Chicago to L.A. on Route 66 in a Thunderbird many, many, many years ago. I seem to recall the World's Biggest Ball of Yarn or something like that. And the Grand Canyon.

I would say you'll want to check out Mount Rushmore on your way.

The travel time Google gives you is strictly road time, assuming you're consistently going at the speed limit. Stops for meals, rest, bathroom breaks, etc., etc., will add a lot more than you think.
