Someone I know recently got certified through the National Association of Sports Medicine. Basically it is a course where you study and take a final exam and there isn't any in person portion of the course. How can someone get certified and really be capable of training people? There is no way that you can learn proper form in strength training just through videos. I see it as the equivalent of a violinist learning how to play at a high level with instructional videos, it doesn't happen.

So say I decide to go through the certification process myself. Does that mean then I'm technically ready to start training clients? That sounds rather risky. Any thoughts?

I'd say contact NASM personally and inquire more with them rather then ask on here, the same would be said for people who do online studies, it's all about location, situation, time and money.

Also you could be told, don't knock it until you try it.
