I remember it being widely used in the bars and clubs in Nashville back in the 80's...and of course mine was coral, both right and left. icon_wink.gif

You only memorize and look for the colors you are interested in....icon_wink.gif

All in all, mine would be: Airforce Blue on the right,Coral-right and left, and Olive Drab left icon_biggrin.gif

I learned of the hanky code when I came out almost 15 years ago. There were about 5 colors that were most used, mainly in leather and bear bars in Seattle where I lived.

But it wasn't that widespread, never seen in the nicer gay clubs, and already considered a bit passè. It's value to me was in avoiding guys sporting red, yellow or brown hankies.

I don't know anyone who ever knew the whole extended code like in the list shown here, that I'm not even sure was ever "official" anyway. Makes me imagine how a famous scene from an old Marx Brothers movie might play in a gay bar:

"Getcher program! Can't tell yer gay without a program! Program here!" icon_rolleyes.gif

It was mostly used in the Leather/Western bars and clubs...although I did see it in a few other places also. icon_wink.gif

I can just imagine the conversation that goes along with this.

Homo 1: "Hey, what the hell are you doing down there and why do you have a color palette?"
Homo 2: "Just shut up and hold still, I'm trying to tell if that's pink or magenta; there could be dire trouble if it's the wrong color"

I recall it well, and in fact I once knew many ofl the codes off by heart, but have not givern any of it much thought over the past 20 or so years.

Gosh the things that come to mind now about the eara. The first time some one talked to me about fist fucking, and I laughed my head off at the thought. How I used to get told I was the best sex outside of the heavy Duty Room; anyone recall them, or even been in one?

Hankies are so last century. The new thing I guess are Jelly Bracelets

"This new social phenomenon involves "snapping" the bracelet off the wearer, enabling the snapper to earn a sexual favor from the snappee based on the color of the snapped off bracelet.
The colors each have a coded meaning as follows:

    * Yellow - indicates the wearer is willing to HUG
    * Pink - indicates the wearer is willing to give a hickey
    * Orange - indicates the wearer is willing to KISS
    * Purple - indicates the wearer is willing to kiss a partner of either sex
    * Red - indicates the wearer is willing to perform a LAP DANCE
    * Green - indicates that ORAL SEX can be performed on a girl
    * Clear - indicates a willingness to do "whatever the snapper wants"
    * Blue - indicates ORAL SEX performed on a guy
    * Black - indicates that the wearer will have regular "missionary" sex
    * White - indicates the wearer will "FLASH" what they have
    * Glittery Yellow - indicates HUGGING and KISSING is acceptable
    * Glittery Pink - willing to "flash" (show) a body part
    * Glittery Purple - wearer is willing to French (open mouth) kiss
    * Glittery Blue - wearer is willing to perform anal sex
    * Glittery Green - indicates that the wearer is willing to "69" (mutual oral sex)
    * Glittery Clear - indicates that the wearer will let the snappee "feel up" or touch any body part they want

The Hanky Code was once very serious in the gay community. Whether its mention here in the OP is a joke or not I cannot say.

Things like the Hanky Code were necessary when gays were forced underground, and had to communicate by non-verbal methods. If you find it a joke today, then consider yourself fortunate to be living when you do. And fight the evil right-wing forces that would put us back where we were, to a forbidden place where artificial devices like the Hanky Code were needed in the first place.

I always keep my mustard hankey in my left pocket.

Anyone know the rules to the park cruising and how guys park cars.
Someone told me once there are ways guys cruise @ parks and rest stops. If they back in, have window open, flash lights, turn wheels..?

I posted this because I thought it may be interesting to see if anyone else remembered it. You are very correct, I well remember a time when the police would "raid" the gay bars and clubs and etc.

I can understand gays having to communicate by non-verbal signals, but to have a cue for "sucks cum out of condoms" is a joke no matter how you look at it.

So if you wear a rainbow does it mean you like it all? And why do gays hate colorblind people so much?

there's a scene in the film Cruising where Al Pacino's character walks into a gay bar wearing yellow (I think) and another guy asks him if he's into piss and Al Pacino says no so the other guy gets mad and tells him to take the damn hanky off.

Gosh I must of seen that movie about 30 times. Can you belive that gay and lesbian activists took to the streets in America, in an attempt to stop this film from showing; gees to this day we have to fight censorship, and here they were trying to enforce it; dame radicals.
