I was taking the trash out today and asked my 14 year old next door neighbor if he was going to see Avatar. He informed me "no way" because that movie was for Geeks.

I don't know much about this type of movie, and I know it did gangbusters at the movies....but I was curious why this one would be deemed......geeky?

    Can anyone shed some light?

PS...there is absolutely nothing wrong with Geeks! I love em personally!

The story/premise of the movie is cliche in sci-fi, anime, and miscellaneous videogames. Plus, add in the CGI characters, the alien planet, the mech fighting machines.

I dunno. It all seems kinda boring to me. But I guess for the general public, this is like the best movie of the decade. icon_lol.gif

I'm skeptical of movies that are too popular and are too well advertised. They often turn out to be brainless CGI heavy abominations. Especially from someone who made Terminator. ;d (Though Aliens was awesome). The story itself is a bit mundane compared to hard scifi topics (which admittedly is difficult to translate into the screen).

However, I never pass up scifi movies, evar. So few are made these days, so I'm looking forward to it. And this is definitely scifi and one of the few that made it into mainstream awareness. So yes, it's definitely geeky. But the geeks shall inherit the earth in the coming centuries. ROFL

And 14 year olds... Tsk. What does he watch then? Rambo?

it's the Fern Gully: Revisited ... perhaps that is what your young protegé picked up upon:

    Fern Gully:

edit: I loved the movie. I am not insulting or critiquing the film at all.

The story was "Dances with Wolves" ,but in sci-fi/CGI. It was heavy on "we are all apart of one force" ,very pro don't rape the planet. Extremley, anti military. The head col. actually looks like a GI JOE figure-lol!

The story line would make a conservative squirm in their seat. You could make an argument it was pro paegan/Wiccan.

I saw it IMAX 3D. I thought it was incredible, and thought, this is the way movies are going to go now. $17.00 for a ticket!-yikes, but worth it I think.

I don't know what other Hollywood movies people watch that they think this one is particularly cliche, but it's entertaining and beautiful to watch.
