Giddy, terrifying, and ultimately heartbreaking. Though I tend to classify that one incident nowadays as puppy love. It was the moment when my prayers switched from 'Please God, don't let me be gay' to 'Please God, make him love me back!' icon_lol.gif

This was in sophomore high school (I was around 12-13). Shortly afterwards, I became agnostic, then ultimately an atheist. Go figure. icon_wink.gif

My ex and I were going steady for 4 months or so. We ate out a lot, went to Disney and Universal Studio for the rides, and shopping. We came home from Disney after one looonng day. We sat and watched TV for a while and he fell asleep in my arms.

I realized that there was a man who was comfortable enough to: spend the majority of multiple days with me, talk about silly stuff or nothing at all, make food for me without me asking, or to fall asleep in my arms.

He was my first longterm relationship. I was so overjoyed, it hurt.

Fallen for someone 3.5 times. Only returned once (to my everlasting gratitude).

    Some signs I experienced:

o Your friends tell you "you're acting like you're in love." Somehow your friends always seem to know before you do.

o You keep voice mails so you can play them over and over just to hear his voice.

o If you give him a head rub, you keep smelling your hands on the way home, or Brokeback-like, find some ruse to keep an article of clothing so you can "hold" him when you need to.

o You look at him in the eye one day and bust out crying.

o You physically hurt when he's away for a significant time.

o You think about him every day, multiple times a day.

As to whether the love is "puppy" or not, that one is always tough to call. Frankly, it will be what it will be, so I don't think you should worry too much about how long things will last or what path they will take. I'm all for diving into the pool, even if you're not all that good at swimming. You gotta practice!

When he kissed me. I knew I liked him, I knew I thought he was beautiful, but when we kissed -- BINGO.

That was 33 years ago, and I'm still in love with him.

When I saw him I knew. The next day we went on a date to the gym (for the pool) and I just knew.

IquanaSF said it right: When you look into his eyes one day and just burst out crying.

It was the best feeling in the world. I was at his house and had the day off. He was working. I wanted to do his laundry. As I was sorting his clothes, I was smelling each piece of clothing and lovin it.

But the clincher was folding his clothes after they were washed and dry. I couldn't believe how carefully I did it. I was holding and staring at each piece of clothing and thinking about his body in it.

Ironically when he got home and prior to him finding out I did the clothes, he pulled me real close with tears in his eyes and told me he loved me.

It was pure joy. We were together for 16 years.

Thanks OP for asking this question. It feels good to remember.

    My first:

I watched him and crushed on him for weeks then one day I actually touched his hand. I loved the texture and strength of his hands.

16 years later I'm still ridiculously innocent that way. *blush*
