I just stumbled upon this neato picture book of one serious freakin fusion machine. I think it's a giant boondoggle, like a lot of LLNL work, but from a geek perspective, it's totally awesome.

    Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas is a 4 megajoule laser with a 500 terawatt power burst. I promise to wear safety glasses when I play with it.

    Thanks,

    K

    Dear K,

Stop getting sexier. You're about to become such a dense mass of sexy that you'll collapse upon yourself causing a rip in fabric of space that will create a black hole of pure hotness.

If this happens, I'm afraid no other man will ever be able to be attractive again. Think of the bigger cause.

    Sincerely,
    G

In all (near) seriousness, that's pretty awesome stuff icon_biggrin.gif

Also, Congratulations of your 1337357 post!

No wonder we don't have commercial fusion technology. They can't even design a web page.

OK, I'm nerdy enuf to bite on the bait...

What WAS your research at the NIF? Was it your PhD work or something else?

Is it related somehow to your abs?

If not, you can still talk about your abs if you want.

Figures my 1st post on a fitness forum would be something nerdy, BUT...

I get to operate one of these every once and a while (football field sized particle accelerator!):

    It's fun icon_biggrin.gif

    Oooooh, aaaaah! Which one? Where?

My friend's mom worked at SLAC in the glory years and she gave him and me a special insider's tour. Was neato.

Welcome the nerd table in the RJ cafeteria BTW.

So, like, can you give tours for the RJ nerd table?

I'll let you borrow my original Star Wars Light saber whenever you need it.
