ok i was laying in bed last night in the wee hours watching tele and i switched to the Animal Planet channel. They had this program Dog 101 and for that hours segment they were taking about the worlds rarest and close to extinction dog breeds. It really opened my eyes as the dogs that they showed i have never seen before. I have never seen them or even read about them. The fact of the matter is, certain breeds are going extinct because they cant reproduce correctly or they are too high maintenance and have many health issues so people dont adopt or take time to care for them. The other reason is that people are now too caught up on this hybrid trend. They rather have the essence of two dogs put together than just have one. Here is just a couple of the dogs that are scheduled to go extinct in the next 5 to 10 years. I am wondering if people dont realize that old models are cool and valuable as well. Google if you like the list of near extinct dog breeds and look into how you can help.

Update i think ill continue to post here a Breed a day that will go extinct....you guys dont have to reply...just reading the info is enough.

All beautiful dogs. I reckon a lot of these and other working breeds will eventually vanish. It's a shame.

the thai ridgeback looks awesome ! like a wolf crossed with a panther or something. yeah atm my sister has one of those mongrel dogs maltese x cocker spaniel or something. i just call it a rat.

don't get me wrong i love dogs. i used to have a pure bred husky, unfortunately it got bitten by a tick and it eventually took her away from me icon_sad.gif

this whole toy dog trend thats going around is really wrong i think. however i do understand that some specific crosses are especially bred for allergies and working dogs etc.

Dogs have and will always be a part of my life, one thing Ive discovered is that I don't really "click" with guys who don't like dogs or pets. I've got 3 boxers that are simply amazing, nothing better than walking thru the door and being greeting wih butt's wiggling and nothing but pure love and excitment. All breeds have their distinct traits and little quirks that draw people to them, I'm just partial to really sad looking eyes, big tongues and butt wigglers, lol....Anyone whos ever been around a boxer will know what I mean.

Heres another dog breed that will be extinct in 8 to 10 years.

    The Chinese Chongqing..

They are an ancient, natural breed said to have existed for 2,000 years since the time of the Han Dynasty in Ancient China. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the dog was almost eliminated, leaving only peasants and rural people to keep the dog, which is why the breed is rare even in China.

If you're interested in these things, you ought to watch Pedigree Dogs Exposed from the BBC.

It's all about the horrible lives and deaths forced upon pedigree dogs because cruel breeders are focused upon how the dog looks rather than how healthy they are.

I don't know about Thai Ridgebacks, by Rhodesian Ridgebacks - as part of the genetic disorder that makes the hair grow backwards on their back - develop painful and infection-admitting holes right into their spine.

British Bulldogs can only have caesarian sections because their heads are too big to be born.

King Charles Cavaliers' heads have been made so small that their brains don't fit causing incredible pain until they die.

There's an awful lot to be said for not saving pedigree dog breeds and breeding some mongrels if you're really interested in dogs' best interetss.
