You get a gift that pisses the living daylights out of you because you know deep down to the bottom of your soul that this person put absolutely no thought into the gift at all. Now, this person isn't a total stranger but in fact, is someone close to you (parent, close uncle, sibling, best friend, etc) who hasn't given you a "I tried but i screwed it up" sort of gift, but gave you a "i don't care, here's something that was lying in my closet from last year" kind of a gift while you actually put lots of thought and a significant sum of money into every gift you give them (although the money part doesn't matter really...well...it does when you're pissed but doesn't when you're not). This isn't a first time "oops" sort of thing, its sort of a trend and it consistently pisses the hell out of you...so what to do?

I got so so SOOOOOO pissed that I gave it back to them (my cousin to be specific) politely and said "you know what...i'm not gonna use this and it'll probably go to waste so you should take it back and give it to someone who'll use it" She was shocked..I was like "oh well".

To be honest, I'd rather she hadn't gotten me anything at all...would've been less aggravating.

What would you do?? AND..should i feel bad?? I

Way to be in the Christmas spirit. You know Christmas is all about keeping tabs on what others give you. "It is better to give than to receive" Bullshit right!! Way to go guy. Pettiness needs not take a holiday during the Christmas season.

Wow, I'm kinda curious as to what she gave you, to invoke such a response from you.

Without knowing the details of the item in question, I personally would have re-gifted or donated it to a charity.

I think being angry or giving the gift back is kinda bad.

Pretty petty if you ask me. I would have just said thanks and either donated it to a charity or something like that (certainly not a re-gift).

My aunt is actually like that.

For my birthday she sent me a cheap duffle bag and a water bottle from a raffle she won. She told me "Oh, I didn't really want it so I thought I would just send it to you for your birthday". She also sent me a broken, already opened, dart board set that she got from walgreens. The thing that pisses me off the most is that she can buy my cousin a $60 doll and I have to get the first thougtless gift in her reach. I'm not meterialistic at all,but I like things to have meaning behind it even if it's a toilet seat. Which I got for my birthday last year!!icon_biggrin.gif "thanks mom" icon_wink.gif

oops I forgot to say what I would have done. I would have just taken the present and smiled even if you didn't like it.

She re-gifted me this shirt that my mom had gotten for her husband...which is an honest mistake except that it was way too small (I know because i told my mom his size)...so it was an obvious "i really don't care" type of thing..at least in my head. IDK....i prefer the thought over it all..sometimes a simple "i'm sorry i couldn't find anything" honestly makes me smile because i think "ok..at least they tried". Heck...don't even give me a card...a hug is good enough but don't be THAT thoughtless.

Yes...i'm probably over-reacting but it kinda got to me this time. Maybe because its family i've known my life.

Now stop this drama and shut up. Thanks for this reading the replies and actually reading and objectifying it all put it into some sort of perspective and i guess i was kinda douchy. 1-800-Flowers here i come....not tonight though..still kinda peeved...and i need to think about what she'd want for a "you got drama queen for a cousin" bouquet.

Ohh.. Your cousin broke the re-gifting rule!

You're supposed to re-gift to people that will never see each other. Re-gifting within the family is a bad move. As a joke, you should have re-gifted the shirt back to her husband next year. icon_lol.gif

It'll become the phantom fruitcake that keeps getting passed around the family every year. Lol.
