100 workers today were hired at $8/hour to melt ice at Lambeay Field today in preparation for tomorrow's Packer game. icon_smile.gif

Creating jobs was one good benefit from our ice storm. And the reports that came back were that they all had a blast. lol

Keenan Landry, 16, of Denmark, was one of the few workers who planned to attend Sunday’s game.

He said he woke up at 5 a.m. and liked the job because it’s fun.

“I’m getting paid more here than at my actual job.”

David Gesicki, 15, came all the way from Phoenix, Ariz. He was in town for the holidays, visiting grandparents from Appleton.

“I just wanted to do it,” he said with a smile as he surveyed the stadium. “I like the Packers.”

I went and helped shovel snow last year. I have to admit with all the Packer spirit around, it was fun.

Call me an asshole, but I don't really care about the teenage unemployment rate. They have plenty of time to make money. I'm more concerned with John Smith who can't support his teenage son and wife because he can't get a job anywhere due to his excess experience and age.

Clearly it's not because of his excess experience and age, how about his lack of motivation? He could be out there melting ice too, but I'm sure he thinks he's way too good to do that job. Hey, money's money and if you bitch about not being able to find a job, then do something about it

Whenever it snows, the Packers hire the first 300 people to show up and they pay you cash at the ticket window. They have people waiting in line at 5 am in the morning. It's quite an interesting procedure they use to get all the snow out. They have a couple of metal slides that extend from the top of the stadium to the field with 150 people working around each slide. They shovel the snow on to the slide, so that it can slide on to the field where it is scooped up and put into a truck and hauled away. The 150 people each grab a section of the slide and keep moving it around the stadium until the whole stadium is shoveled out . One year the snow was so slushy that by the time it reached the field, it was all water. lol
