true, Jesus and some of his followers did suggest it was better to NOT be married because everyone thought the end was near. So much for the sanctity of marriage. But I don't think Jesus intended for men to castrate themselves, just not to marry (the verse before) if they could not remain faithful:
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery. The disciples said to him, "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry."
also though because the kingdom was near:

I would be happy if people would learn that we were never created a christian nation. The government should be secular as the founding fathers intended.

And senators should stop committing adultery. No premarital sex. No prawns.

This thread is PATENTLY RIDICULOUS. Jesus of Nazareth did more to liberate women and human sexuality than any philosopher before or since. It was Paul, the self-loathing closet case, that did so much to fuck up a good thing. Paul hated women, hated his own carnal impulses, and dreamed up the idea of celibacy as the better path to God.

We would all have been much better off if Paul had not lived...

I agree. This topic is a little inherently flawed in thinking that the nation was entirely founded on the basis of religion. Sure, one could argue that there was some religious influence, but I don't recall ever seeing the word "God" appear anywhere in the Constitution. Also, a little historical reference, the act of castration was, by the time of the American Revolution, not something that was as wide spread as it had been before. Even self-castration for the means of being a castrato had lost considerable liking in the public eyes.

I suppose if you are a "pure homosexual", you already are a Eunuch, sterile, and a misogynist, so need for any medical procedures, as nature has already done that.
