I'd thought people here would put gay issue up first! I kinda rank it somewhat low myself too.

I think it's very much age related.

Universal Health care <- everyone should have the right to the best possible health care regardless of financial status
Gun control <- guns should be banned outright, preferably not manufactured.
Taxes <- they should stop putting taxes down and instead put the extra into health care and education.
Phone Monitoring/Privacy <- why you would want to list to my phone calls I'll never know, but the fact that you want too reaks of lacking respect and trust of your own people and once we no longer trust them, we feel no shame in taking away there rights.
Education <- when they stop putting taxes down our schools will become far more capable.
Stem Cell Research <- the potential is to great to ignore.
Social Security <- no one should be homeless and unable to eat three meals a day.
Economic <- a thriving economy creates over indulgence, we should work harder to live with less and to appreciate more
Immigration <- everyone should be allowed to come to Australia no matter where you are from, however, learning our culture and being open to it, as I will be to yours is all that I ask (perhaps learning the langue too)
Gay Union <- if it means I have the same rights as any other couple, then I am all for it. If not, then the same as gay marriage
Gay marriage <- a piece of paper is not going to keep me faithful nor in a relationship, thus I don't see the need for it.
Abortion <- I am male, I have no view on this.

But there are many many other things I could put into that list, but, that is how I'd organise the options icon_smile.gif

    1. Health care
    2. Organizing kangaroo-court Show Trials of all Bush administration officials.
    3. De-certifying Liberty and Regent Universities
    4. Restoring the Fairness Doctrine
    5. Reviving antitrust laws and then applying them to consolidated right-wing media empires.
    6. Funding rehabilitation programs for recovering Republicans.
    7. Bringing back stocks and public flogging for corrupt Republican officeholders.
    8. Removing religion from public life. You want to be religious? Fine, just leave it out of politics. Render unto Caesar, and all that.
    9. Slapping Barbara Bush's (senior) ugly puss and then making HER go live in the Superdome for a week.
    10. Making Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity spend a year washing the feet of the poor with their mouths taped shut. Bill O'Reilly too.

    1) military - eliminate the US military
    2) taxes - eliminate the income tax
    3) economy - tax foreign goods, offer tax discounts to for company's remaining inside the US
    4) immigration - Make it easier to apply for citizenship. Remove the loophole where children born are auto citizens, send back any illegal immigrants
    5) social security - phase it out over time, protecting whose currently depending on it. People should become responsible for saving money themselves.
    6) gun control - get the hell out of gun control. People have the right to keep arms
    7) gay marriage - Its not a government issue. Stop trying to step in and take power
8: health care - No universal nanny state
    9) education - what needs to be fixed? End NCLB, just don't try and apply more universal standards to school.
    10) Eliminate the CIA+NSA
    11) Being the process of demanding all nations disarm

Wow, so people who can't afford health care should just go off somewhere and die?

    Nice.

How 'bout that second amendment. Why don't we REQUIRE people to be armed to the teeth? We'll all be safer. Uh huh.

No social security, eh? People should depend on the kindness of the stock market and the Invisible Hand?
Newsflash: the people who most need Social Security are precisely the people who don't have lots of money saved up. Because they squander it on big-screen TVs and Lexuses? No, BECAUSE THEY DON'T EARN ENOUGH.

    You are one over-privileged boy.

Political topics are always personal. everytime you see citizens talking to presidents, they "always" ask help for personal problems. I'm glad to see so many of you are concerned with bigger picture.

    Your one angry old man.

It's bad for your health, chill out and go smoke something.

Your missing the point of where it is within the power of the government to demand all people take part in assisting everyone else. The nation was intended to be a place to escape authoritarian powers like that. If you don't like it move to Europe.

    Trance23,
What are you eating, drinking, or smoking that has caused you to talk in such idiotic manners. Man are you fuckin crazy eliminate the US Military, do away with Social Security, don't have affordable health care and allow everyone to have a gun. That is not only complete idiocy but total insanity. You obviously have lost your mind on this one. Our country is vastly differant now than it was over two hundred years ago. This country has an important obligation to take care of its people during hard times and when they are old or disabled. One of the purposes of all levels of American government is to provide good, adequate services to its people. Otherwise the country loses its legitimate right to exist. There is nothing wrong with a nanny state providing that it is not abused. You can no longer go by what the origional intentions of this country was over 200 years ago because that concept is totally obsolete and unworkable in today's modern day and age. As for guns, no one has a legitimate reason to own one unless you are a sportsman. The second amendment to the constitution needs to be permanently repealed. It is very obvious that the second amendment is the violent crime contributing amendment. It should meet the exact same fate as the 18th amendment(prohibition).

    2. Rebuild alliances/ Restore US prestige/fight terrorism.
    3. Build up US economy/ Repeal Bush tax cuts/ End corporate welfare.
    4. Rebuild US military.
    5. Institute single-payer universal health care.
    6. Control US borders / Heavy fines for companies employing illegals.
    7. Repeal any acts that make in legal for one state to disregard civil unions, marriages or other contractual relationships between individuals/ pass ENDA.
    8. Adopt a national transportation policy to include Strict reregulation of air passenger carriers and construction on a national high-speed rail network.
    9. Reduce exploitation of public lands/Make users of public lands for profit (oil & gas interests, ranchers, e.g.) pay fair market value for whatever they are still allowed to extract.

Ebl333, I really had to augment your list. You hit most of the key issues and probably even the ones the candidates deign to address, but there are a few that I think need to be addressed differently and given a higher priority. I've italicized those

Terrorism - No, I don't mean Gee-Dub's brand of fear and Code Red alerts, nor Guliani's campaign issue. I mean that we need to make our ports safe and create a better system for airports, and return our attention to the Afghanistan/Pakistan region.
Iraq - Create a plan for getting out and ending the distraction and waste of resources on this unnecessary war.
New Orleans - Enough of the political posturing and commercial intereference. Rebuild it already!
Economic - The past four administrations have thrown America's productivity to the wind. We are losing our manufacturing base and becoming reliant on imports. Funny how American workers have been told to get with global marketing, while their opportunities for work disappear.
Universal Health care - No one should be denied the care he or she needs.
Torture/Violation of Geneva Conventions - We must expose the violations of this administration and put an end to any continuing behavior
World Image - The US has got to repair its world image by returning to the high road of diplomacy.
Education - It has become a lazy sentiment from politicians but we need true education reform that puts an emphasis on valuing all minds.
Social Security - It's going to be a mess, what else is there to say?
Gun control - How much murder and how many school attacks does it take to convince a "civilized" nation that this isn't working?
Gay Union/Gay marriage- America is moving at a glacial pace on this, yet I wouldn't recommend any president to touch it in a first term. Can you say "Don't ask, don't tell?"
Taxes - The system needs reform but methinks there is no such thing as a reform that would benefit anyone but the rich.
    Phone Monitoring/Privacy
Immigration - Obviously this needs to be addressed, but I don't understand why America's general populace has chosen to blame their diminishing American dream on immigrants, illegal or otherwise.
Abortion - Expecting sanity on this issue is asking too much. We can only hope that it stays out of the Supreme Court.
Stem Cell Research[/b] - It could make quite a few differences, but are Americans smart enough to fully understand it? If I were ill and it could help me this would be #1 on my list, but as it is, the US has a lot, lot more pressing issues.
