Because why not. OK! This is my attempt to helm the RJ meet-up. So if you are seriously interested participating in either, reply to this thread with either "Camp" or "Cruise". I've also tentatively suggested the 2010 4th of July weekend. You could also confirm this as a date you could (and want) to attend, or suggest an alternate date. The "where" part would be addressed later.

    Go!

Cruise... they're actually a lot more fun than people think. Plus, you get to travel in style. Imagine running water, clean toilets, no mosquito bites.

Still, if the majority chooses camping, I'll try to attend. Someone's gotta break a nail icon_smile.gif

the where will determine if i can make it!
4th of July is typically hard b/c of a soccer tournament that takes place every year that i usually go to...

    but, i'm interested...esp if there's a sports-related or fitness-related theme to the gathering

SteamyWeenie saidnot to mention a whole lot less crowded at the airports too.

I agree. We could aim for Valentine's Day seeing that the majority here are single icon_smile.gif Or choose the week before school officially ends...

The question is why push it off to July?

So far I have heard: camping, Valentine's Day, and Vancouver BC. Wonderful! ... icon_rolleyes.gif ... Vancouver in February ... that sounds ducky, just ducky! ... icon_wink.gif ... We could also wear fuzzy white suits, lay on the ground, and wait for the canadians to come club us to death with pick axes! ..

Doesn't have to be until July, but summer is usually a doable time as far as work/school concerns. The point really is to find a date that accommodates the majority of guys interested in the meet-up, so as long as the majority agrees on one. Also I guess the warmer the weather better suited for outdoor activities.

    Camp!

Ya know... it seems to me that a cruise would make this a very difficult trip for those who are younger, in school, etc... and whose priorities, by virtue of their minute bank balances, do not necessarily include travelling in style.

But... er... uh... just out of curiosity... where would the cruise be? LOL

Nah. I seriously LOVE camping. It's an experience that will awaken everyone's real spirits. Cruises are just a parade of bathing suits, booze, and gayness. Not my thing.

Middle of February may be a tad chilly for the camping option...

Flexibility is good icon_smile.gif But for the purposes of the thread either/or would be helpful, as the thread's purpose is to tally a majority on one side or the other.

I like the idea of camping. But I think a cruise would make more sense, in terms of logistics and overall convenience. For a social gathering with a large number of attendees, it's just better to have someone else take care of the food, drinks, entertainment, and so on.

That's a very good point I was mulling over in my head earlier. Camping is more of a "Ok guys, let's ALL help out in this, this, that" or whatnot. Also it'd be easier for someone to feel kinda left out or alone if they don't fit in well with the group dynamic of camping. The advantage of a cruise would be that if someone wants some downtime on their own to do their own thing it's easier to do so on a boat equipped for that.

Logistically I guess the campers could go camping and the cruisers could go cruising. A smaller more intimate group may work out better for camping, and I guess any number could work on the boat.

Another option would be someplace like Vegas. Where the hotels are relatively inexpensive (if you're not into gambling...).

Regarding the cruise option, there are affordable cruises all the time from FL. They also sail from several other states like CA and NY.
