I didn't see enough movies to list 5 as 'best'. Of the ~12 movies that I did see, I'd say that these three would be on a top 5 list:

    Avatar
    Up
    District 9

    I still haven't seen:
    A Single Man
    The Hurt Locker
    Precious
    Invictus

I agree. I also thought "The Hangover", while it did have it's moments, was over-rated.

    I only have 2 for 2009:

Up - fantastic Pixar movie, really funny and inventive.

An Education - interesting, fascinating, evocative period drama about the seduction of a college girl in 1960s London.

Inglorious Basterds?!?!? Hello!!!! The new Tarentino film about killing Nazis!!!! #1 in my book!!!!

    Then, you have...

    2. Up

    3. Avatar

    4. The Hangover - seriously funny and a little over-rated

    5. The Proposal (did that even come out this year? I was in South Africa when I first saw it... but regardless, Ryan Reynolds naked... enough said!) XD

    Also on my list...

    Blind Side
    Invictus
    Drag Me to Hell
    Julie & Julia
District 9 (also saw in South Africa... personally, don't know what the obession was about... it's more about xenophobia than apartheid. And I love Prawns... they're delicious!)
    Coraline
    Star Trek

Its crazy how (500) days showed up so much on the list. I liked D-9 just because as with Avatar, I went in very pessimistic, just being a good sport. But I came out loving them. If a movie can do that, I know it really clicks.

Hahaha, I hope you're not serious. I LOVE IT, but I view it as parody - like The Evil Dead, or Leprechaun in Space, or Poultrygeist.

    In no particular order:
    Avatar,
    Inglourious Basterds,
    The Hurt Locker,
    Star Trek,
    500 Days of Summer,
    Watchmen,
    Me and Orson Welles,
    Public Enemies,

And movies I failed to see in 2008 that need more recognition:
Milk, Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right one in)....so many more.
