I think about this topic from time to time, especially when considering buying new (technologically advanced) items-

Is my privacy being invaded? How many companies share my information?

Movies like Minority Report show a future where advertising follows you everywhere, and is geared towards a file that companies have complied about you. I find having a GPS unattractive simply because of it's name: Global Positioning System. If you're on the earth, you can be found. These are in many cellphones and cars nowadays. I hear about new cars that record any detail of their driver's input, and can report illegal activities. The Patriot Act. The list goes on and on...

How do you guys feel about this trend? Anything about it especially bother you?

Oh, no, this information will NEVER be used for any other reason......
    Quote:A Matter of Privacy

We have no doubt the plan is technologically feasible. But the tracking component raises privacy issues that alone should send Whitty and Kulongoski back to the drawing board.

The vehicle-tracking component would "seem very problematic, particularly to some of the conservative folks out in eastern Oregon," GM's Wilkinson said with a chuckle. "The idea of having the government track their vehicles with a GPS device would probably strike at least some of those people as not a good idea." END QUOTE

I think we're screwed. No such thing as privacy anymore. We live in times where credit agencies know more about you than your own mother.

The only alternative is to drop off the grid. Move to the sticks and become a hermit. icon_neutral.gif
