Gay Indiana U. professor stabbed by Marine who claims sexual assault - thoughts?

I just came across this this morning - pretty interesting situation.

A 25-year old Marine stabbed a 53-year old gay Indiana U. professor to death, after claiming that the professor sexually assaulted and raped him in front of his girlfriend while they were intoxicated.

Now, that alone sounded crazy enough, but then I read this [FYI, the Marine's name is Michael]:

"The affidavit said police found Belton's journal, which contained an entry saying that he was "very happy" that someone named Michael had entered his life. Police later received a call from Griffin's girlfriend saying she thought her boyfriend might be involved in the slaying."

It sounds like, to me, there was some sort of consenting relationship (or sex) between the Marine and the professor, and somehow the girlfriend found out, maybe caught them, maybe confronted them. The Marine freaked out, and later went back to murder the professor, either out of rage or trying to protect the secret of his sexuality.

Here's some links to the story:

What this guy thinks .... is that "girlfriend" got wind of the little stud
visiting the professor for some extracurricular activities
    and she bolted
This guy then knew he was exposed
and went to blame the professor for him putting his hand somewhere

What conforms it is that he's alleging Two assaults
    What? One wasn't enough???
This is the gay rage crap all over again
and it focuses on the deep latent homophobia that's still in our society

If it is true that they had a relationship and the young guy killed the prof, it would seem to be internalized homophobia. Homophobia in gay people it truly a form of insanity.

This is why "straight" or closeted men should be off limits. The gay guy is always portrayed as some sort of all-powerful predator, who's getting his comeuppance for "raping" some drugged or "bewitched" man.

Do these situations ever turn out well?

This guy is a Marine...do you really believe that he would let anyone force him to do anything? I just find this hard to believe. The girlfriend finding out and him going berserk is probably what happened.

I think it's too early to make presumptions about the situation. I'm a student at IU and know the campus is very open to homosexuality and Bloomington has a large gay population. However, a lot of posts on the net victimize Griffin, the killer. I think this is shitty, considering there's not much information regarding the incident (..I mean planned murder).

While it is too early to make a conclusion, we can still look at the story and conclude that he did, in fact, murder someone and it is extremely unlikely that the Marine was "forced".

Also you say "Griffin" which displays a sort of intimacy unusual to normal forum posters.

A Marine who served in Iraq will walk for killing a gay. Let's make that clear from the outset here; no jury in Indiana will convict him when he claims the "gay panic" defense after supposedly being raped.

But between you & me, I do wonder how a 50-something gay college professor manages to "assault" a young Marine against his will, and perhaps twice if I read this correctly. If he got him that totally passed-out drunk, how did the Marine remember it? And he claims it was done in front of his girlfriend, but she herself doesn't seem to know a lot about it. And what was SHE doing during all of this? Taking notes?

But the gay panic defense will prevail, as it has so often in the past, even if a couple of days went by between the alleged rape and the murder. I'm not going to get myself too worked up about this, over false expectations of justice being served, and will just accept the injustice that will play out. Lost causes take too much out of me.
