The 80s music scene was wonderfully diverse, and when I look back on the soundtrack of my life, I find some, ahem, rather seminal songs that contributed to my coming out. All of the songs listed below have or had some meaning to me as a gay man.

    Animotion
    # Obsession

    Bronski Beat
    # Smalltown Boy

    Depeche Mode
    # Sea of Sin
    # Boys Say Go!
    # The Meaning of Love
    # Shame
    # Lie to Me
    # Stripped
    # I Want You Now

    Duran Duran
    # Wild Boys

    Eurythmics
    # Love Is A Stranger
    # Would I Lie To You?
    # Missionary Man

(p.s. A special THANKS to TrowelMonger for his video e-mail) icon_wink.gif

I think my mother letting me what game shows when I was a little kid in the 70's made me gay. Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, etc.

I credit my mother's and grandmother's obsession with As the World Turns as a main culprit. It's been all about the drama ever since!

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye by Soft Cell is one of my favorite 80's pop songs and may have contributed to me being gay. The video makes me laugh because this it was released at a time when lead singer Marc Almond still claimed to be straight.

By the end of the 80's this great club song finally pushed me over the edge of gayness.

You are all forgetting an amazing pioneer of New Wave music and Video. Klaus Nomi.

Wow this thread brought back some memories. I'm gonna have to pull out some old Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Erasure...and the list could go on.

    Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
    Relax don't do it
    When you want to come
    Come-oh oh oh

I know we are on the 80's but 1990 has to count for something. Any way I think this is the song that did it for me. I remember waiting for this video to premier all day and told all of my (straight) friends about it like it was the holy grail. The beat, groove, and hook is so infectious to gay men I think. To this day I think any straight men who likes this song should have a double look at.

Its the sex with men that made you gay ...not the music ...
