Senate confirms first openly gay person US marshal

The United States Senate has confirmed the first-ever openly gay US marshal.

Minneapolis assistant police Chief Sharon Lubinski, a lesbian, will also be the first women in the state to hold that office.

The U.S. Senate confirmed Lubinski to be the U.S. marshal for the Minnesota district. She was recommended to President Obama by her Senator.

U.S. marshals oversee federal courthouse security, witness protection and the apprehension of federal fugitives.

    Lesbian.
For some reason, most straight men think that lesbians are hot, but they're scared to death of even being around gay men.

If it had been an out gay man, he quite probably would not have been nominated (especially if the Senator was a straight male). And, the mostly male Senate, plus all of the homophobic conservatives on both sides of the aisle, would probably have put up some kind of opposition.

Never the less, her appointment is a step forward for all of us.

Nice to see that her competence and experience were not minimized by others views of her sexuality. Small steps in the right direction.
