What topics do you think are constantly brought up in the forums, resolved or unresolved, that could be avoided/answered if user did a simple forum search for past threads regarding the same topic?

Very few actually. Most threads are interested in hearing/reading others' opinions about a topic... and not necessarily facts.

I think the only threads that might not need to be repeated are those looking for factual information. And even then, people with more current info are not likely to go find a six-month-old thread to update it.

I'm surprised that religious threads didn't make the list.

I find these lists very interesting in the fact that premise of this site was to create an open forum of free discussion. If a freshman gay man on this site, post a topic on this site it should not matter that it has been discussed before. Just maybe this personn has diffrent take or maybe he has had a diffrent experience. Should we have a enough respect for his point of view with out saying"We have already discussed this before" . You have not discussed it with him. He should not have to go back and the past post.

If man, woman or child has a right to be heard. I don't think you can ever beat a topic to ground especially if it effects change on a social and human level. UGH!

I'm soooooooo sick of threads about threads we're sick of.

I have to agree with tanker... the point of discussion forums is to participate, to express your own views and hear feedback. What fun is it to just read back over what other people have written? If you're sick of the topic, skip over it and look for ones that are fresher for you.

When a thread resembles a foul taste, I choose not to participate. It's that simple

I have the choice to read, participate or ignore anything any forum topic and everybody else has that choice.

I don't mind topics being repeated. There are new members all the time and this is not an exclusive club.

Sometimes I've already posted my opinion about a topic and months later a similar topic is repeated. And sometimes I've changed my opinion or I have a different point of veiw.

A repeated topic gives me the opportunty to express a new opinion that is diferent from what I have already posted.

Sometimes a topic will be repeated and the OP will talk about it in a different light.......a unique way of looking at it. That's the whole point....to get people to challenge their dearly held beliefs and learn.

There are new people joining RJ everyday and although the topic may have been discussed before, I always like seeing what other people think.

I "try" to avoid reposting topics...or at least add a new twist to an old thread. Its actually a good feeling when I come up with a topic and it blossoms into a full on discussion about the original question and others that were asked by subsequent commenters.

A simple search usually reveals if something has already been posted and if it has been, you can always revive the old thread by posting a new comment. No need to repeat.

That's what I was going for when I thought about this thread.

I was going to create a thread on depression, but i decided to see if other members had the same/similar issues instead of rehashing something that people have talked about in depth.

Sometimes it's hard to search for a thread about a topic you want to talk about. I do my best to check before you create a new topic or put a new spin on the old topic as well. If all else fails, make the topic and hope someone doesn't have a deja vu moment. lol.
