So here's the set up. I just did a 28K ride tonight, in the cold, on a trail that still had snow/ice on it and the 14th is a vicious little hill.

As I'm trying not to hurl heading up this hill, a memory from the erg room when I did crew pops into my head. There was a sign on the wall that read, "Right now, someone, somewhere is training harder than you. When you meet them, they will beat you."

I made it to the top of the hill.

Anyone else got any good ones?

Isn't it, "Beulah, peel me a grape"?

By the way, peel me a banana.

    Well you know those times
When you feel like there's a sign there on your back
Says I don't mind if ya kick me
    Seems like everybody has
Things go from bad to worse
You'd think they can't get worse than that
    And then they do

You step off the straight and narrow
And you don't know where you are
Use the needle of your compass
To sew up your broken heart
    Ask directions from a genie
In a bottle of Jim Beam
    And she lies to you
That's when you learn the truth

    If you're going through hell
Keep on going, don't slow down
If you're scared, don't show it
    You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Well I been deep down in that darkness
I been down to my last match
    Felt a hundred different demons
    Breathing fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled
I'd fall right into the trap that they were laying, yeah

    But the good news
Is there's angels everywhere out on the street
Holding out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one's that you've been dragginig for so long
    You're on your knees
You maight as well be praying
    Guess what I'm saying

    If your going through hell
Keep on going, don't slow down
If you're scared don't show it
    You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, face that fire
    Walk right through it
    You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

    If you're going through hell
Keep on going, don't slow down
If you're scared don't show it
    You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, If you're going through hell
Keep on moving, face that fire
    Walk right through it
    You might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there
    Yeah, you might get out
Before the devil even knows you're there.

Gee Gigaram...if you memorized what cowboy wrote you could have riden the entire race with just one saying... and still not completed the last verse by the time you crossed the finish line! LOL

    Nice though cowboy!

“Love is always patient and kind. It is never envious or jealous or boastful. It is not proud or rude. Love is not selfish, and it does not seek its own way. It is not easily angered. Love forgives completely and keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not lie or do evil, but delights in being honest and genuine. Love is always supportive, faithful, and loyal. It always trusts, always hopes, and always looks for the best in people. Love endures through every circumstance. Love never fails, ends, or gives up.”

"Always have love first in your heart, dream big, and reach for the stars.

    If you have love first in your heart, you will never hurt another person or animal;
    If you dream big, you'll set your goals so they are worthy of attainment;
and if you reach for the stars, even if you fail, you'll know you have endeavored greatly."

i like this one: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

About forty-five minutes into the spin classes I teach, when my participants look like they're about to die, I like to ask them if they're ready for the hard part. It inspires something in them -- hatred, perhaps.

My mind is a garden. My thoughts are the seeds. My harvest will be either flower or weeds.

We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Whenever you see darkness, there is extraordinary opportunity for the light to burn brighter.

Then there's these two poems that always make me go on:

    IF: http://www.swarthmore.edu/~apreset1/docs/if.html

    and

The tree that never had to fight,
For sun and sky and air and light,
But stood out on the open plain,
And always got it’s share of rain,
    Never became a forest king,
But lives and dies a scrawny thing.

The man who never had to toil,
To gain and farm his patch of soil,
Who never had to win his share,
Of sun and sky and light and air,
    Never became a manly man,
But lived and died as he began.

Good timber does not grow in ease,
The stronger the wind, the stronger trees
The farther sky, the greater the length
The more the storm, the more the strength,
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In tree and men good timbers grow.

Where thickest lies the forest growth
We find the patriarchs of both.
And they hold counsel with the stars
Whose broken branches show the scars
This is the common law of life.

    Live, Laugh, Love...

"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. " - ECC 8:15
