CENSORING the HOMOPHOBES

I think I may have posted something like this before, but whenever I upload new Youtube videos, I only allow comments to be shown upon approval. Many of the clips I post are about men who are gay identified, etc., so I suspect I may get some negative responses. I'm sure if you've read any Youtube comments, you know how cruel and sick people can get.

Some gay friends have told me to allow even the hateful. It's freedom of speech, and it makes them look stupid. But I am thinking of two things here:

    1. I don't want the people who speak to have to see those remarks.

    2. I don't belief hateful comments do this world any good. Hateful being things like "I don't know why any straight guy would want to wrestle a gay guy" or obviously much MUCH worse.

I think that hateful comments only embolden the hateful people, and make the not hateful people a little sick. What good is there then in allowing them.

I think you are right. There are already enough hateful words in this world.

I think censorship is pretty much always a silly thing.

    Wait, people read YouTube comments?

That is, I really don't think it matters much whether you moderate them or not. But it's your video post, so do whatever suits you.

I've actually blocked all comments on some videos, but I think when you post something you want to see the comments. It is like opening yourself up to the good and the bad. That does not necessarily mean i need the bad to be seen by everyone else. I certainly see it. Sometimes it can get downright awful how people think. You know, like all those "I hope all of you disgusting fudge-packing gay people die of AIDS" comments. I just cannot let those be seen.

Fair, although it's a useful reminder that many people do harbor such vicious thoughts and may act on them if they feel 'safe' doing so. Honestly, though, I wish more YouTube users moderated the video comments. Every now and again I do learn something neat about a film clip or something.

I agree, either allow all comments or none at all.

"Filtering" sounds like a good comfort word. I enjoy hearing other user's filtered response. I heard there are now children here, on the internet, can you imagine? We must watch our manners and use of swear words!

But seriously, I "filter" all the time. Rarely do I ever read any religious threads any more. If there was an option to block the religious threads I would block them.

I wonder how open some of the people on this thread would be if the homophobia was being displayed here in our little safe haven from the world where we can be our selfs without fear of ridic oooh..

    ignore me, carry on..

Na, seriously, how many people here would be so happy and comfortable with there ideals here.
