I'm probably joining them in the spring. Anyone already a member? Former member? Thoughts or any info on the group would be appreciated.

Well, it's a low risk proposition. You can show up for runs really at any time, and if you decide to join, the fee is minimal. I've met some decent folks there. That being said, I have to confess that I have not been in a long while. It doesn't fit well with my current training schedule.

    There's a fee?

I've been running on and off with them since Labor Day. They are very welcoming and friendly. I've been doing the Saturday morning run and have not tried the evening run. I also haven't gone to any of their monthly happy hours yet.

I started going to Front Runners because I wanted to give running with other people a try. I've always run alone. What I've found is that people socialize before and after the runs but they pretty much keep to themselves during the run. I see some guys who run in pairs who chat a bit but they are the exception, not the norm.

Give it a try. They are very welcoming to newcomers.

I've considered joining them as well, just haven't gotten around to it.

Just did my first outdoor run of the year yesterday anyway, so I haven't really been actively looking to join a running club. I'm just not a cold weather runner. icon_smile.gif

I did ask a friend who is in the club about it and he said: "Front runner is much better than I anticipated. Not creepy at all. Men (and some women) of all ages, shapes, and sizes..just like rel life. But everyone trying to stay in shape."

Thanks guys. At what point do you have to pay. It seems, looking at the above responses, that dues aren't a big focus. This is kind of important, because cash is tight at the moment, and at the same time I don't want to be a jerk.

No one has mentioned dues to me at all, but then I haven't officially joined the group. If you are just going to show up for some of their fun runs I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yesterday they announced that there is a run tomorrow (Monday, MLK Day) at 10 am. It starts from the usual Saturday spot of 23rd and P.

Yes, there is a $25 per year membership fee, but it doesn't seem like you have to pay the fee to join the group on the runs they do. From the website, it looks like membership gives you the discounts at running stores, the newsletters, training program help, and consideration in their own club race circuit. But from my understanding, you don't have to pay the fee to join the runs or go to social hours. I've been invited to both and am not a member.

And yeah, I understand that "money is tight" feeling. That's another reason I haven't ponied up to join yet. icon_cry.gif

Thanks guys (again). I'm probably not going to be out there Monday, but come spring, I'll be there. At the very least on Sundays.

One cool thing about frontrunners is that there are chapters of the club all over the world. I was part of the Rome club and we had a blast every Wednesday evening.

Belonging to one club sort of gives you a segue into the others, so when you're traveling you can meet other runners who can let you in on local routes, etc.

The only disappointment is that some chapters are less active and certainly less reliable than others. I've shown up for runs entirely alone from time-to-time.

I run with the DC chapter every time I visit DC and always have a great time and a great run. The Saturday run is quite nice. I enjoy that loop by the zoo. I confess I've not run with the Cincinnati chapter in some time, as I don't like where they run on Saturdays (a cemetery!) and the group doesn't seem too focused on running beyond it being a social experience.

So I am planning to give it a try, hopefully this week if the weather and my work schedule cooperate.
