This is going to be one longass roadtrip..... Las Vegas to Orlando.
Have two routes planned out and looking for ideas on places to see/visit along the way.
#1 Kingman AZ > Flagstaff AZ > Albuquergue NM > Amarillo TX > Dallas TX > Shreveport LA > Baton Rouge LA > Tallahasse then Orlando 2354miles

#2 Kingman AZ > Phoenix AZ > Tucson AZ > El Paso TX > Austin TX > Houston TX > Baton Rouge LA >Tallahasse then Orlando 2443 miles
This route is more on the coastal side of the drive but has me driving thru one longass area of texas with few places to stop

Any thoughts on areas or which would be easier/safer

Use Route #1 to drive to Orlando and then use Route #2 when you are driving back home.

austins better, i live in san antonio, unless u dont wanna worry about traffic then san antonio it is. but the shorter trip sounds better even tho u have to go thru el paso to austin is DEAD and the cops are dicks there, i do that strip when i drive to cali. just be careful ive seen movies about cannibal inbreds that live around that area

I've taken a cross country trip from Vegas before. What time of year? If weather is not concern then that number one. NM has more to offer than AZ.

That is one long ass trip for sure, man. I use to live in Phoenix, AZ. It's a nice Oasis, so if you can plan to stop there for a night, it's a great place with great restaurants and hotels. It doesn't sound like this is a leisure trip so you probably wouldn't stay more than one day there, but if you were going to... it would be the spot.

One of my favorite dining spots was AZ88 (http://web.me.com/az88/AZ88/Home.html)

I once drove from New Orleans to Phoenix on I-10 (26 hours)... 16 hours in Texas. All I have to say is make sure your coffee and gas tank are full for that huge ass state. I love TX but (at the risk of sounding cliche) it's HUGE.

Anyway, have a great trip, man.

    How bout New Orleans?
Are you going to visit any RJ members?
Road trips are the best.....especially the long ones. Just don't forget anything in any hotel you stay in like I did.
    Great memories!
    Have a wild time!

I've driven both routes between Houston and Santa Fe NM. I'd go through Albuquerque. You can get a taste of northern NM with its high-desert scenery and can easily divert to Santa Fe which is 45 min. north of ABQ.
The southern route between El Paso and Austin goes through hundreds and hundreds of miles of total nothingness. If you want to stop for the night, the only option is Fort Stockton TX which is like something out of Mad Max - the motel clerks sit behind bulletproof glass.
Houston and Dallas are equally uninteresting to visitors except for the nightlife.
But under no circumstances should you miss New Orleans.
