Everyone posts there horror date stories. Where do you even find people to date cause the only people that message me just want a hookup. Do you get them online or at bars?

I have horrible "gaydar" for meeting guys in public so in the recent past I have relied on Websites, Chat-lines and Gay Clubs/Bars to meet guys. Most of them just wanted hook up and told me otherwise but there was a percentage that I did meet to potentially date...

I think its like gold prospecting, sifting out the dirt to find a nugget of gold.

lol. I was thinking of gay bars but to be honest I am assuming people that go there like to party and drink alot. I do not drink or smoke so i am sure anyone i find at one would not really work.

Do you have a pet? Dogs love to go to the park and sniff other dogs butts.

See if there are some other single guys that are there with their dogs.

a cheesy one line, if your dog goes up to sniff the other dog's butt, you could comment. hmmm' if only we could meet like that... ' LOL.

Put yourself out there, laugh at yourself a little.

I find dates at house parties, the gym, connexion, here, never at the club, and meeting through friends.

What an awesome idea. I can't believe I haven't thought of that yet. There's hope for me still. icon_exclaim.gif

Wish I had the answer to this one. Have been on too many dates where all the guy wanted was a hookup, regardless of what their profiles said.

I've only had two situations that might be remotely construed as "dates" from RJ.
I get asked out a lot in real life hardly ever online, I don't know if it's because I live in San Francisco or if I'm just so homely it takes less courage to ask me out.
I imagine the other guys internal dialogue goes something like: "Oh Christ look at him, of course he'll say yes, he probably hasn't been asked out on a date in years!"
    I've been asked out:
    - in the grocery store
    - sitting on the bus
    - waiting for my table at 2223 *while I was on a date with another guy*
    - the park reading
    - the Sprint store
    - waiting at the bus stop by a guy driving by (i must have looked like a really cheap hooker)
    - the gym is a hot bed of dates waiting to happen, I prefer predominantly straight gyms because I don't like the distraction
    - the WORST time was when I was with my ex and his mother (my former mother in-law) a man saw me crossing the street when we were going into a restaurant for dinner, I smiled at him (because I'm friendly) 10 minutes later he showed up at our table to give me his business card... it was so embarrassing, my ex *of six years* and I had been broken up for two months at that point... I wanted to die.

I guess if you want to get dates, smile a lot, look homely and cheap and above all else, "cast a wide net" there are more freakshows than respectable guys. Sometimes, it's a numbers game.

Thanks all for the responses. I am looking for a gym to go to but it is hard to find one. I mean we have them here but arg I cant pick. Most gyms here are aimed and marketed toward girls. Actually I think all of them are. There are some cute guys in Minneapolis that would be cool to be friends with from their profiles but i am to afraid to message them. Every guy that messages me just wants to hookup. :s

I do appreciate the folks that are up front about wanting a hookup. It's those bastards that dont just lay it out there that confuse me. icon_lol.gif

I'm thinking grocery stores are a great place. I've seen it happen quite a bit over the years. Unfortunately, working at one is not the same as being a patron and excludes me from that benefit. At least that's where I'm placing the blame.

The supermarket is a great idea! Always dreamt of meeting Mr. Right in the produce section.

Maybe that's why they keep lowering the temperature.... waiting for guys to start hugging each other just to stay warm icon_smile.gif

I always wonder when guys try to be sneaky about hooking up and you say you do not want to. I mean what happens once they meet you. They think you are going to change your mind? I was at the supermarket with my dad and this hot guy was eyeballing me down but i couldn't like stare back because my dad was with me. I love making eye contact and holding it with a hot guy.

In all seriousness, if you're into sports then gay sports leagues in your area -- softball, volleyball, tennis, etc -- can be great outlets to meet guys that aren't just about hooking up. They are fun, you meet interesting fun health & fitness minded people, and it's a far better environment to meet them in then say a bar

I am into sports but I am terrible at them so I dont know how well that would work. That would be a good idea though.

You could be very helpful with their shopping and casually mention what time you're off work that day. The bright ones will figure it out!

im going on my first real date tomorrow. At least I hope we are. I met him on grindr. There is another guy I met on Scruff who also wants to go on a date vs. just bottoming. So I may have two dates!

On every damned street corner, department store, subway and coffee shop in spitting distance.

    They are all the same.
