I just got it 2 weeks ago so I can stay in touch with my nephws out of state and stuff... and now my computer keeps locking up, and it can't keep up with my typing and I find letters being left out all over my message.

The only thing different in the past few weeks is my adding Skype... other than that it is a new computer I just got inSptember.

Has anyone else experienced problems like these from Skype?

Are you only using Skype for instant messaging? If so, I'd use a different program such as Yahoo or MSN messenger. They both also have video capabilities but are limited in the amount of bandwith they use, and thus shouldn't have much of a detrimental effect on the rest of your system. Skype with video chat going is a complete resource hog and tends to be a bit buggy at times. It decides how much memory and CPU it will use to optimize the performance without any feedback from the user and can cause some computers to really slow down.

Just deleted it last night and my computer is back to normal. No more missed letters when I type... it doesn't freeze up when the screensaver comes on... not sure what the problem was specifically, but getting rid of Skype fixed it all.
