While results are not beyond 50% at this moment, it is clear that Hillary Clinton beat the naysayers that said the democratic race is all but over....

While I'm a loyal democrat and NOT against Obama (in any way).. I'd vote for him if he is the democratic nominee, I have been very concerned about the wild
(really above the top) approach many have taken since the Iowa caucas.

These results will force a real look at the issues, a calm review of what this election is all about.. and
Mrs. Clinton showed real guts the last few days...
I happen to have real respect for both Bill and Hillary.

This nomination process is FAR from over and I'm very pleased.

I would never be so presumptuous to link myself directly to Bill and Hillary, but I do share the surname and my family did happen to come from the Arkansas/Missouri region.

Gentlemen, I think we now have a true contest on our hands--Hillary and Obama will now have to address the issues more thouroughly. We'll see if they'll keep it civil; I think they might and for the Democratic Party's sake I hope they do. Hillary's upset proves that voters don't want to be told who they're voting for before they've even cast a ballot. More importantly, they are turning out in record numbers (Democrats outnumbering Republicans 2 to 1). On a personal note, as a Hillary supporter...fucking awesome!

She cries, and wins. If Johnny Edwards tried that, maybe he'd do a little better. I'm sure Ahmadenijad and Kim Yung Il are QUAKING in their boots at the Heiress Apparent's imminent ascension to her Divine Right of Queens.

GWB is the biggest idiot to EVER walk the face of the Earth- Hillary is the smartest woman EVER! Bill just called her a "World Class Genius"-- WHY did she authorize force in Iraq? GWB "tricked" her. natural Blonde for SURE!

The media (CNN et al, not just Fox) is playing this for ratings- they don't even need writers! Remember their Golden Boy 5 years ago? Dean Howard, or something like that- yeah, he was a SHOE IN!
It's so predictable, yet not boring. Can't wait for the gloves to come off!

I'm SURE this Clinton would lift the Military Ban- just like hubby promised during CamelotII.

The ride will truly be bumpy, and NOT Carbon Neutral!
Question is, will the Indie canidate be a spoiler for the (D)'s- a la Nader, or the (R)'s- a la Perot?

What a pleasant little surprise. It's seem that naysayers only make their views known publically and not politically -- like in a vote. I personally feel that it's a great thing that Hilary won the N.H. Primary. I personally feel that if Hilary could win the Presidency, than perhaps a homosexual may be a step closer being able to hold office; and to me, that would be someone I believe could really make some positive long needed changes to the political landscape, and our country overall. But, I'm just getting ahead of myself. Go Hilary! I'm ready to vote in Boston ;-) Naysayers, take your post >)

Ms. Huffington, whom I like, is notoriously, violently, relentlessly, tiresomely anti-Hillary. I think it sucks that the site's home page seems repeatedly slanted against Hillary.

This morning they're "blaming" Hillary's win on her tears, as if Obama's appeal isn't primarily emotional.

If you want to see really silly democrats you should read Daily Kos. They are rabid Edwards supporters talking about how now is the perfect chance for an Edwards come back! Cause, you know, coming in third in the only two states you even have a pulse in is a real launch pad.

But hey, based on polling information and prediction markets I thought Obama would win by 8 points last night. So, you never know.

I post regularly on DailyKos, and as a Hillary supporter, it is hard to do so. That website, supposedly in place to elect more and better Democrats, has become THE premier Hillary hate site on the Internet, even more than RedState.org. Kossacks, as we are called, feel Hillary is not liberal enough to be the standard bearer for the party, while Republicans think she is too liberal. This dear lady is like a national Rorsach inkblot. People look at her and see what they want to see...

This is exactly what is wrong with US politics: more style, less substance. Clinton gets "emotional" in response to a question about her hair, and suddenly she's a human being! Um, what about that Iran vote she just said "yes" to? Iraq? IMF/WTO? Does anyone GAF???

Am I the only one thoroughly disgusted with BOTH US political parties at the moment?

I am also glad that John McCain won. Although I am not a big fan of the Republicans, I could live with McCain or Guiliani, at least they have some feistiness and nastiness to them as well as integrity (for a politician). They also don't seem to be as beholden to the Christian right like Huckabee.

I'm not FOR Hillary, but don't hate her either. Back when she was the health care warrior queen, I thought she was great. But since then she voted FOR the war in Iraq, supported that horrific bankruptcy bill (come on people, THAT was bad ), and generally tried to triangulate towards a formula for national electibility which included taking a number of right-wing positions.

It's all reasonable strategy (or is it officially 'strategerie' now?), but none of that's going to win my heart or mind.

I find such ungrounded comments really offensive. She is a very hard working senator.. She serves on committees in the senate, including the foreign affairs committee, has made trips overseas and worked hard and listened to the people of New York.

She has more than earned respect for her dedication.
What she doesn't deserve was the treatment she received over the weekend, but she showed them.

Compared to Bush, A N Y B O D Y will be a refreshing change. And I do think Hillary would be a good president BECAUSE of her ego. She's GOT to know that if she fks up, people will be all over her. I think she'll actually want to do good things for the nation even if it is, in part, about her legacy as the first woman president.

And it'll be refreshing to have someone smart in charge of the country for a change.

Independent of Clinton's strengths and weaknesses, I see a problem with her candidacy unrelated to her worth. Irrational Clinton-hating, of the type we see in USMCJock's post above, is rampant in the mid-section of the country. I've witnessed it. It's out of proportion to any actual issues related to her positions, even her support of Bush's invasion of Iraq.

I am way beyond making a "statement" by my vote. First and foremost I want the Republicans out....their pandering to their own far right means step backwards in almost every area of importance to me, including gay rights, environmental issues etc. Even McCain, the most palatable of their candidates would be kissing up to the religious right portion of the party.

I'd be happy with Obama, Edwards or Clinton...but I want the party to choose the one that is most likely to defeat the Republicans. By the way, Clinton's husband balanced the budget. It's astounding to me to read some of the posts by the Log Cabin Republicans on this site actually complaining that the budget would not be balanced if Hilary Clinton became president, ignoring the near trillion dollars wasted by Bush on Iraq. Imagine if that money were back in the treasury.

I agree with McGay....if the choice comes down to Clinton or Obama as the Democratic candidate, and if one of them wins (please, God....), it will do much to restore our country to its progressive stature.

Well, before you remember the Clinton "Golden Years" (*cough cough*), just recall that spending for social programs started to decline in these years, Kyoto was NOT ratified, Iraq sanctions were in place, US prison population rose tremendously, and the seeds planted for what could in the near future be war in Kosovo, again. No, Clinton isn't Bush, but just keep it real.

To all those who say "anything is better than the republicans," isn't it that sort of nonchalance that has kept the Dems in Congress sitting on their asses...after all, they know they get your vote so why bother doing anything. To believe Mrs. Clinton will be any better than Giuliani (ugh, I shudder at the thought)is to ignore her voting record, her equivocations, and her record on helping the citizens of NY. 2 Cents.

"... just recall that spending for social programs started to decline in these years, Kyoto was NOT ratified..."

No one is claiming that Clinton's presidency was without its issues. But many of the things he wanted to do were stymied by an uncooperative congress. I agree about Kyoto...but at least the late 1990s were a period when what we scientists were describing as Global Warming was poorly understood, and, probably, poorly communicated. Skepticism, though unwarranted, probably was more understandable then.

From my perspective as an environmentalist, to put the Clinton presidency in the same conversation with the Bush presidency, just because of the lack of support for Kyoto by both, is reducing the score on enviornmentalism too simplistically. First, what was known about global warming then and now is the difference between night and day, and, second, the Bush administration has done its best to spread disinformation about the issue. And, then, on every other issue with respect to the environment, the Republicans fail miserably.

So, yes, at this point, ANY democrat would be better than any Republican. No one is stating, though, that were the Democrats in huge majority and in power, that some of the same fat cat issues associated would power would not emerge. Of course they would emerge.

But we are not at that point. Right now we need a change back.
