Pat Robertson the sometimes crazy head of Christian Broadcast Network
today claimed that the reason for Haiti’s misfortunes was that the nation “swore a pact to the devil” two centuries ago.

[S]omething happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heal of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal.

And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle on the one side is Haiti the other is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we meed to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I’m optimistic something good may come.

    Pray for them Pat????

Haiti is a sad country. I'm reading its history right now in a book by Mark Danner and the place is almost hopelessly corrupt, violent and blurry to the outside world.

    Such a shame.

Why is 'god' only thanked when someone survives some disaster but not blamed when disaster happen?

    I hate religion so much.

icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I visited Haiti the summer of 86 during a dance tour in college. I had the best time and the natives were sooo friendly. This is quite sad.

Jesus calls people like this false prophets. Pat Roberston has tried to predict the end of the world and Jesus says this is one of the signs of a false prophet, when their prophecies do not come true.

Pat Robertson is taxed on his income like everyone else. Just because he is a gospel minister does not exempt him from paying taxes. If he doesn't pay his taxes, Uncle Sam will come and put him in jail.

This is ridiculous. However, I did note when watching the news that the shock waves from the Haitian Earthquake stopped right at the Dominican Republic's borders.

Jesus corrects Pat Robertson when he thinks disasters only happen to bad people. Jesus specifically says this is not true in Luke 13:1-4,

" 1Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

why not do good from your own heart rather than guided by some false deity.

In any case, the focus should be on how to help Haiti, anything else takes back seat.

Pat Robertson is not only ignorant he is downright disgusting for making those hateful remarks towards the people of Haiti. Those poor people just suffered from a strong earthquake and this extremist right wing lunatic goes on the air making all these bigoted comments based on his fairy tale religious beliefs. The man has absolutely no decency along with zero credibility.

the problem with haiti is that it does not know how to play the system. all it needs to do is to declare itself communist and voila america will throw open the doors!

that country is cursed along with the people living there. sorry to say it..for a culture that dabbles into voodoo and live by its teachings..i am not surprised that these disasters keep happening to that one country over and over again. That being said i doubt anyone sold their souls to lucifer. Its just that the land is curse due to the immense amount of blood spilled on it through violence.

at this point...communism i believe would make Haiti and this country a much better place. Communism is not a bad theory..its how you use the theory and its ideas which determine good or bad effects.
