What happend to Hollywood?

When I was growing up Hollywood was a magical land, which could transport you to placers you had never imagined. It's movies made you laugh, cry, and sometimes even think. Walt Disney John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, and others had an instinctive grasp of what Middle class wanted to see. Movies also become America's most successful export, carrying American values and prospectives all over the world.

Yet today Hollywood is in trouble. Box office sales are down, the reason isn't so much the recession, it's that Hollywood has forgotten who it's audience is. it now makes movies that disparage American institutions and traditions or which promote Waco leftism. Hollywood has become part of a dominate media culture. They love to make fun of things many people hold dear. They make fun of people who believe in God. They ridicule the traditional family, heterosexuality, and monogamy.

The irony is Hollywood love too rail against capitalism, greed and the profit movies, yet much of the greed can be traced to the people of Hollywood itself. Movies are making millions of dollars, yet lost a lot of money because of huge salaries, because stars and directors are taking huge fees in the deals; Billy Crystal quipped during one Academy award: "MY GOD, they can't aford another hit."

They wanted those stars and agreed to their demands. Thats their business. But for people in Hollywood to then turn around and critique the rest of America for being greedy, is the height of hypocrisy.

Maybe I should take a friends advice and get into politics, and use that as an outlet. It would at least be entertaining, and I'm sure even you in America would hear of me too. Food for thought.

May be the fact that the gay movement of America thus fare has failed for advancement is because the have gone out of their way too ridicule traditional American values, that other country also hold, and at the same time have demanded acceptance, and advancement, so the voters of America have rebelled too, by saying NO!

If they moved away from the term marriage, they may see advancement?

Remember actions speck louder than words, and it is because of my daily actions down here in Oz, that I am accepted, and not disrespected because of my words on RJ.

What on earth is Waco leftism? You do know Waco is a city in Texas, and not exactly leftist.

Oh, right, you're just a bad speller, blah blah blah. You meant wacko. Don't worry, I don't really think it's your crappy spelling or grammar that's unraveling your thesis.

Considering most Americans think of kangaroos when they think of Australia...

What is the point of this entire thread? If you want to run for office run for office. I'm sure people accept you for your actions but it doesnt mean they should or have to listen to you.

I second what the cute, shirtless fellow said. What the freaking hell? Is this the thread equivalent to drunk-dialing? Because a lot of that spelling and grammar (and logic) 'sounded' drunk.

Hollywood's got its 'issues'-- as a bastion of the creative class, there's a certain out-of-touch-ness with "the real world" and its sensibilities. Hollywood is a bubble wherein superficiality has more currency than in most places, because it's built on the projection of images, ideals, dreams, and so on. But blaming the place and the entertainment industry for the degradation of society? I think that's giving them too much credit. A house doesn't deteriorate and fall down just because of the gaudy home-theater add-on; it deteriorates and falls down because its inhabitants grow lazy and irresponsible, the head of the household can't tend their house, the bank account's cleaned out from an imprudent lifestyle, there's termites, or any combination thereof.

As for condemning 'Hollywood' for denigrating the pillars that some imaginary idealized golden age of yore were built upon (like 'heterosexuality?' really?) that's absurd on so many levels. One, because that nostalgic 'better time' is a myth devised by reactionaries. Two, because heterosexuality ain't some flawless gem in the crown of civilization (not while it's still loaded with its historic sexist, patriarchal, misogynistic/homophobic baggage). Three, because mass media entertainment can poke fun at heternormativity but it's never going to turn so many of the straight-wired into homos that the population tanks. And on and on and on.

    Hey fuck off, folks.

If you want to get into politics, subscribe to Dan Carlin's Common Sense and even Hardcore History.

He is, as he says, the non-partisan alternative to American politics and world affairs. That man really does sound like George Costanza gone political, but fuck if he isn't right about MOST things.

I say most because undoubtedly you will disagree with him.

His latest show deals with getting into politics... he ain't afraid to say the C word... CORRUPTION.

Dan Carlin seems to be a fairly smart guy. The key is, he can write. None of the OP's posts make any sense other than a fairly odd conservative meander on the problems with gays in America, a favorite punching bag of his.

He's the only person here who seems to delight in the fact that gays in America can't be married (edit): Yet.
