Dancing as HIIT

This is not yet another thread asking for advice on HIIT; there are plenty of those.

I had been wanting to do some form of HIIT, but running as HIIT wasn't doing it for me, I don't have access to gym cardio equipment, and jump roping was also not doing it for me (too boring after a while). I also wanted something that I could do in my own apartment without stares from people around me.

So I put on my headphones and my iPod, made a high intensity Genius mix, and danced wildly at HIIT intervals. Good, fucking, gods I am exhausted after 20 minutes. I can't suggest this enough if you want to do some HIIT that is never boring and that you can do in your own home.

Let me tell you, though, that if you do dancing as HIIT that you have to commit to dancing in a way that would be embarrassing if seen in the light of day; as in, straight up crazy person kind of dancing. At least for me, there is just no way to do it and even pretend that I would dance like this normally, as I have to move too fast to look good (of course, I don't claim to be a great dancer, so if you're a great dancer maybe you won't look like a moron). But it was so much fun and so exhausting by the end of that 20 minutes; like, I could barely get myself to dancing at 1/2 the speed by the last interval. This is cardio I can commit to--and hey, maybe it'll make me a better dancer?

    Not likely.

There is a famous book by an MD shrink called "Unstuck" that talks about dancing in front of a mirror in HITT intervals that will work better or as well as anti depressants

    He calls it dynamic meditation

SteamyWeenie saidi hope ur not talking dancing as in zumba. i saw a class at my gym// ill leave it at that. but what kind of dancing? u got a technique down or do u just really do whatever the hell u want? it sounds great actually.

I definitely don't know what that is.

And no, there's no technique at all. It's just free form craziness, and yes it's a blast.

    what is HIIT?

You know what else helps and improves balance, focus, etc...

Watching choreography and doing it yourself. Like pick those crazy songs, with intense amount of choreography and do it do it do it... especially the ones that have floor movements where you bend down and move around a lot.

I mean that's what I do and it's so exciting because then you watch more videos and performances and get more ideas on dancing and your knowledge and skills grow more. So it helps with everything PRACT!

    great work out.

HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training; it's basically a way to do really effective cardio in a very short amount of time. It kicks your ass. And at least when I do it, there's no focusing on improving balance or looking good. As I said, it's like crazy person, flailing kind of dancing. It's awesome, but I promise you that you don't want anyone to see you doing it.
