New basketball league open to whites only, to get away from the ‘street-ball’ played by ‘people of color.’

    Excerpt:
'The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta [GA] will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.'

    Ummmm WTF?!

If they believed that, they wouldn't need this new league. The WNBA would likely wipe the floor with them.

Why don't they just start up a new lawn croquet league? Highest standards of civility with nothing to offend the senses.

This is so beyond absurd that I can believe its true. If the guy wants a league that plays a certain style and maintains a certain image then make rule to the game and league. It makes no sense, but if true is beyond sick.

Hey, at least one good thing that can come out of this: You'll know exactly who subscribe to the local KKK charter.

    Best part:

"Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.""

White people are not a minority. Until there is another race/ethnicity that outnumbers whites on their own, we are still the majority.

I think they're free to set up the kind of league they want.
I think the wording of their promotional material is disturbing. The idea that they make a blanket claim that white players play one way and nonwhite players play another way, and that white players would never curse at the spectators or carry a weapon to the stadium while nonwhite players would is pretty much as clear as racism gets IMHO.
Should they still have the right to congregate in their league? Of course... keep 'em rounded up where they can be easily identified. Of course, you might have to prove both your parents are Caucasian so no one slips between the cracks. I think Hitler left a whole system behind for racial identification and tracking.

    ...omg.....they can't be serious.

I'm at a loss for words here. Quite frankly, if a straight guy joined a gay league he'd likely get a lot of, erm, attention, lol! I can't see him being turned away because he wasn't gay.

Good grief, what's next? White team against black team? Asian team against latino team? And what about the chaos of mixed race teams?

    Uggh. -Doug

Damn right, when will people learn that we have a constitutional right to freedom of association, but no, people keep wanting to force people to be friendly and happy to all, and end up causing the opposite effect.

Urm. No one is actually saying they CAN'T. It's more a case of 'whoa' and 'WTF is wrong with america?' kind of thing. Especially given the reasons for being all white.

If the reason had been instrinsic (i.e. 'to promote basketball among white guys', 'just for the heck of it', or whatever) no one would've batted an eyelid. But to create an all-white basketball association for the alleged reason that black players are supposed to promote bad unsportsmanlike behavior is thinly disguised racism. An unsurprisingly childish baiting.

But of course, it's America, not really that shocking. Where 'nyah nyah' is the central theme of politics, where Christians invented the word 'Christian bashing' to excuse the murderous results of their holy teachings, where people still wave the banners of a defeated slaver society proudly, where nationalism refers to the fierce pride for the dominant race of invaders, and where lawyers outnumber most other professions.

Apparently "Moose" has never attended a hockey game, in which almost all the players are White, and it's organized mayhem, with nobody safe, on the ice or in the stands. Maybe what's needed there is a Black-only hockey league? icon_rolleyes.gif

The only way it's legal is if there are no earnings. If there are paychecks, then there are employment laws that would forbid this.

I hope they play a "street ball" team made up of all black people, and get their asses handed to them (which they would).

    seriously, though... really?
