Has anyone else noticed a tendency for people to act as martyrs on these message boards? Primarily in threads about what it means to be gay, drag queens, size matters, etc. Lines like: "I get so much shit on RJ for being who I am..." Basically read the threads "Why can't a gay man just be gay?" and my thread about 30+ bears to get a good sense of it.

I realize that it's all probably a part of the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory (see link below if you don't know what that is), but I just wanted to put the question out to the forums. Whats up with the Messiah complexes?

I don't get your inquiry. Are you wondering why guys post these types of questions? Or are you wondering why people chastise the ones that are posting these questions?

Well there is one person on here who's playing the conservative victim card to a laughable degree. He's about as "independent" as a newborn child.

Every time a contentious topic comes up, they act like they are tragic heroes, put upon by the world, everybody is against them, and they're oh so brave for standing up and finally saying something about it. There's one poster who sticks out in my mind, but I can't find his profile or any of his posts. I wonder if he deleted his profile..

    "...FUCKWAD"...... LOL!
I haven't used that in 20 years...god, that used to be one of my favorites! LOL!!!

You have to remember that there can only be one MARTYR at a time, because the cross only seats one at a time......LOL!....you pound the nails for a little while, I'm tired of always pounding the nails, bitch!

So by referencing one of your own threads, you're one of the persons that you're criticizing. icon_lol.gif

I find that most/all of those threads are created by younger guys in their 20's. No surprise. At that age, I think everyone at some point has felt that they were alone in their situation. Some are more dramatic that others, of course.

A lot of those threads come off as ignorant whining. But I really don't mind. It's better that they get it out in the open so that others can chime in and drop some knowledge on them. Sometimes, they snap out of it and learn something new. And sometimes they ignore everyone's advice and continue to wallow in their own self pity. To me, there's a fine line between martyr and attention whore.

I think it is safe to say that over the internet on the message boards or discussion forums EVERYONE including the OP suffers from a MARTYRS COMPLEX! like when YOU are trying to get your point across and others don't agree with YOU, one get so defensive that unconsciously YOU transform into a MARTYR yourself!!!

we all love to feel victimized. I think it's an archetype of the human mind.

it's one good thing about maturity ( i'm not saying "age" ) , we become aware of it
and stop it from taking over.

I think you kind of missed the OP's point.

There's a big difference between playing the martyr and complaining about a particular issue.

An example of a martyr would be pattison or southbeach who routinely say things like, "If only everyone on this site wasn't a liberal..." or "Why are all fags such single-minded Democrats and I alone have to be a free thinker?"

Are they really martyrs? They seem more like trolls. I get the impression they create inflammatory threads simply to get a reaction out of people. icon_confused.gif

Seriously, I die on a cross for you people, and this is the shit I get. Not to mention I baked Valentine cupcakes for the bowling league and no one even mentioned the ornate lacework on the edges.

Slightly different game there.... I think the OP is talking about the whiners versus the shitstarters.

It's true. Just because I don't think like 90% of the locksteppers here. Because I am a true blue homosexual and a conservative, not one of these johny come latelys. Being gay doesn't define me. Why must we use labels anyway?

A great man once wrote, "That's right! Just because you like sucking dick or riding the balogna poney, you can still call yourself 100% heterosexual if you want to reject the homosexual label. Labels can be SOOOO misleading, eh?"
