    What they say: "Just ask"

What they mean: "Ask, and if you're my type, I'll answer"

they mean "my mind is so vague and confused that I can´t even talk about myself in a semi coherent way so I´ll just keep quiet and hope my pics are enough to get you interested".

I don't want to be hateful because we all have different mindsets when it comes to writing profiles. I ramble and have an essay that could conceivably come out of a Proulx short story. icon_neutral.gif

However, it is disappointing when people say, "If you want to know something, just ask." IMO, it's taking the "easy" way out and reeks of being intellectually lazy. It's not THAT hard to write about yourself without sounding like a tool; Furthermore, if you sound like a tool when you write about yourself, maybe you ARE a tool. icon_cool.gif

I don't know if it's a control thing per se; However, if a person doesn't take the time and make an effort to talk about themselves, I won't usually make an effort to get to talk to them. Hot pictures can get someone in the door, but if you make no effort to keep me there, I'll walk to another house with better furniture.

I think it's a control thing. You perform for me; I don't perform for you.

or laziness... mentally vacuous and lazy. I I I me me me...

There are 7 billion people in the world, best to leave folks with false belief systems alone. EAT.

When someone says "Just ask" to me perhaps they are thinking "I am an open book....." but it comes across as....."I am full of myself...and worthy of a Barbara Walters interview".

It has been my experience that these guys usually like to talk more than listen....
and it is totally unappealing to me.

Without mental vacuity we'd lose about 85% of gay life.
I think I'll stop following this discussion because it's too mentally taxing. The hot topic this morning is the Madonna/human sacrifice thread.

I like the profiles where they've written, "I'll fill this bit in later"

    Huh?

    Cosigned.

After reading such profiles, I move on, thinking to myself, "Meh. He's not that hot."

Maybe they're just bluffin with their muffin.

But of all of the assumptions just made, why not ask THEM? They're the ones who can give you an answer.

Point A <------------------------------> Point B (note the straight line in between)

I thought the point of the OP was that they don't answer.

    I think it's passive/aggressive.

I've found that anyone who can't even give you enough information about themselves to start a conversation is usually too vacuous or too self involved [won't respond to someone who isn't super hot] to start a conversation with anyway. I don't care how 'hot' he is.

Really! Something as simple as: "I like gardening." or "I like classic cars." will create a conversation starting point better than:

"If you want to know about me, just ask."
"I don't know what to put here."
"I hate filling out these things."

LOL I just read through the whole thread and it was quite illuminating. I get the sense that most it not all have had negative experiences with people who werent as open with you as you may have wanted them to be off the bat, or they may have actually been shallow; which is also likely. But I find it interesting to believe that you guys think that simply because a guy wants to keep it short on the profile and not write an autobiography that he automatically has a debilitating character flaw. I understand people have thier opinions and i respect that, but it simply surprises me that all the posts i read seemed to be championing the idea. I can somewhat speak from the other perspective being one who writes the things like "i dont bite", or " just ask" lol i actually have them in my profile now. But my reason for that is because i know if I dont cut it short at some point i'll end up writing a book and NO ONE is gonna sit there and read it lol.
