It has always been happening. It's just that no one ever knows (or cares) about it if you're from the western countries. Since they usually treat western women much more leniently, it never occurs to them it may not be the same for those of lower statuses. Here's a very similar incident that happened just very recently in Saudi Arabia, and it doesn't even concern a muslim woman:

Try googling for overseas filipina workers in the middle east who were the ones jailed for being raped. Not to mention abuse (sexual and physical) and the virtual slavery of hundreds more in their employers' homes without pay and without contact to the outside world at all.

There was a story of a filipina who, in a bid to escape her employers, jumped from a third floor window and broke her hip. She's one of the lucky ones. About 20 filipinas have done the same in Lebanon alone. Rather irreverently dubbed as the 'Jumpy Filipinas'. Some died and have been covered up as 'suicide attempts' by their employers.

More cold realities that we, in the West, are sheltered from. It's sickening that these types of things are occurring. I do feel we have a moral obligation to assist in some way.
