For all you motorheads, SAAB may have dodged the bullet, and survive as a car company. GM finally agreed to sell it, to Spyker of Holland:

This story has been drawn out for to long with none of the major ego's found in the more entertaining VW - Porsche drama.

All I can say is ok nice. Now build this:

The consequence of working for a company that hasn't been relevant in 25 years.

Luckily, car companies are not looking to be "relevant". I'm not sure if I would even want to own a "relevant" and homogenized car that is palatable for the pedestrian masses. Give me quirkiness, passion, safety, technology, and quality any day over relevant.

However, I have read numerous reviews model year after model year written by auto aficionados and professionals in the industry, stating that the 9-5 was the best mid size sedan GM has produced for that given year.

Basically Saab is the Conan O'brien of the car world. Deeply undervalued by it's owner, GM, and treated like an afterthought. GM pretty much bought Saab to pilfer it's technology and engineers, and let it die a slow death. Ford never let Volvo become a joke, that's why Volvo(Saab's main competitor) is still a contender in the car world.

Then Saab needs an owner who sells another line of product to make the dough. Enough dough to be able to spare and keep the "quirky" brand afloat.... Something has hasn't been able to do for itself in over a decade.

The new 9-4 and 9-5 seem to be getting great reviews and press. But keep in mind the Mazda 6 and VW Tiguan also get reviewers gold stars. And they also exist at the bottom end of monthly sales charts.

If Saab is to survive it has to build comparable cars that mass market consumers want. Not oddball designs. And how about no more center dash key slots icon_cool.gif
