Ok, the speculation will be over in an hour, anyone else anxiously awaiting the news?

I received a Kindle as a gift last year, I like it, but sure wish it did more things, and was in color!

Like the iPhone, Apple TV, new iMac and MacBook Pro I may be in line to buy one. I'm a sucker for good design and marketing, what can I say.

No, actually I've been wanting a tablet PC for a long time. But I probably will not buy Apple's. It will be overpriced, I need Windows on it, and competitors will surely offer better at a lower price. I have an awesome MP3 player that only cost me $39, with an excellent built-in speaker. Take that iPod!

I'm very curious to see it... are we looking at an enlarged version of the iPod touch, you think?

I'm sure all news networks will have it on at 1:00pm Eastern. That's 39 more minutes. That and then the State of the Union speech tonight. What a DAY for America!

Apples do run Windows now, and are far more secure than PCs icon_smile.gif

I'm wondering if we are going to see a lot of injuries and problems when people start using touch-screens for most of their input. They have something new called proximity-touch, where you just get your finger close to the area of the screen to make something happen. I see a lot of sore elbows and wrist problems. Maybe even some neck aches.

itll be funny if they dont show any tablet at all giving the fact that its still a rumor. Im looking forward to it anyway but I'm more excited about the new iPhone than the tablet itself....anyway if apple releases such device(tablet) itll be around $1000.

I don't have a practical use for one or the money to spend on a high tech toy like that.

i think this is quite an unnecessary product.

just because it is from apple doesn't mean it is a guaranteed revolutionary item. frankly i don't see the purpose of it. what are u going to do? give up the iphone, black berry, kindle and all other gadgets?

Apple doesn't stream it live, but you can get updates from Macrumors via their website or twitter.

Apple will however post a video a few hours after the media event ends.

Does anyone know if you can install your own programs on it and if the web browser is allowed to run plugins like Flash as Safari does on a normal computer (mac/pc)?

Doesn't it need an intel chip though for that? The webpage for the ipad shows 'It’s powered by a 1GHz Apple A4 chip'. Not sure what that is.

My very first...way too early initial thoughts.

    1. The more Steve Jobs says "awesome" the less I believe that it is awesome.
    2. Most practical uses? Watch a movie on an airplane.....have a companion at your breakfast table with you.

    Other than that?

I'd consider it if it came with and LCARS interface app.

And in the 10th winter of the new era, the black-clad God appeared. And He said, “Lo, look upon these tablets as proof of my power.” And all were struck by the majesty of their God and did take His tablets and spoke well of His doings. And they traversed all the world proclaiming, “Surely, this is a sign that our God is God, and that all others are inferior. Submit, lest we call thee disbelievers!” (Jobs 27 1:15)

Well, I gotta say the $499 price is gone Kill Amazon's Kindle. Watch Kindle take a sharp price cut in the next few days.
