OK...The background story is this....so I was outside running 12 miles on Saturday 1-23-10. A very mild and nice day( by January in the Midwest, standards). The trail had alot of debris (gravel, stones, sticks, grass clods, and trash), from where the snows had melted and left it on the asphalt trail. At mile # 11, I tried to avoid a big bunch of debris and ended up tripping and falling over some other smaller debris. It was a sort of strange almost "gymnastics/tumbling" type of fall, where I actually rolled across my shoulder and sides and landed back on my feet. I literally never stopped going forward, when I landed back on my feet, my right leg had a huge cramp hit me and stopped me till I could rub it and get it to relax (LOTS of loud yelling and swearing, it had to be a Funniest Home Video Moment)...I finished the last mile with a walk back to my truck...I had been drinking water regularly and had protein and carbs and all that was OK. I drove home and about 2 hours later I had a major migraine hit me and just flattened me for Saturday night and most of Sunday......nausea/vomiting/ hyper-sensitive to light, sound, smells, vertigo...all the standard things......
I come to find out from my buddy , who is a paramedic, that this is all the classic symptoms and cause of a CONCUSSION. I told him that I never hit my head and he tells me that you don't need to hit your head. That it is any violent motion of the brain in the skull...and what I described to him was fairly violent. I went to the urgent care and had the Dr check me out. She said that I could spend 1000's of $$ on tests and they would all be inconclusive or to just rest and relax and wait for all of the symptoms to stop, before resuming any type of activities again. Well...the major symptoms have let up, but I am still feeling kind of "scrambled" and my thinking is not as fast or clear, nor am I feeling as able to put together complex thoughts....I actually caught myself stumbling for words and stuttering. Not like me at all......
I guess I am just curious if anyone else has had experience with a concussion...how long should I go before resuming my workouts and what, if anything, I should be looking for as a signal to get to the hospital or Dr....I don't feel any pain, not black and blue or bruised, eyes are the same size and color, just a strange "feeling" and just a very intermittent, momentary feeling of vertigo....this is a new sensation to me and I am a bit uneasy and unsure of it... I have asked doctors and they have all said to give it time and rest...I am going stir crazy by not working out or running...just antsy to get going again, but don't want to mess with this concussion shit....icon_confused.gif

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but I am floored the urgent care physician didn't suggest a scan to look for a hematoma.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery!
