Hey guys, I just recently found out (after attempting to donate blood) just over a week ago that I'm HIV + . Idk how I got it, here's the kicker, I've never done Anal and the only guy I've swallowed in the past couple months gets tested and he's clean. Otherwise I just masturbate with another guy..... Anyways, I've been a bit depressed about this and I'm looking to find people to talk to about this and in general too. Also Im trying to find a few good places where I can learn more about hiv and especially trying to find more information about local dr's and treatment. If you guys have any sites you would recommend or any global groups who could help that would be wonderful. Especially seeing as I fell off my parents insurance last month I'm trying to find a good location to go to that isn't going to want my leg just for the visit. Im not expecting you guys to look up local dr's for me but I'm just asking if you guys have any infosyion that would help, thanks!

I'm very sorry to hear this. I'm sure you are still coming to grips with this news. Fortunately, now, you can live a long and productive life, and being positive is now a manageable condition.

You can check out this site to get some information (look under the tools tab):

    http://www.hivplusmag.com/

I don't know about where you live, but here in Houston we have local clinics that provide free HIV testing. Maybe they have something similar in your area. You can usually find these by looking in local gay information sources. Given that you got this result from testing when donating blood, I would get a second opinion by locating one of these free resources and getting re-tested.

Many counties also have free treatment for HIV, if you are not financially secure. In Houston we have a county clinic. Many times, these are funded somewhat by the Ryan White Act in addition to state and county funds. You need to see if your area has something similar by going online or consulting local gay resources. Or perhaps investigate some of the national resources you can find on the link above.

Also, many counties and AIDS socities have local counseling services. I would recommend you find one there and attend some group therapy to help you deal with this. I found it helpful for me.

    All the best to you.

Thanks for the info! But yes I've never done Anal which is the common way to get it, maybe it was oral sex? Idk but yeah it's been a shock because I didn't imagine that I could get something like this for doing almost nothing.... It's cruel irony I suppose. But yeah I'm in Phoenix az area and I'll look up that site and try to find some local groups who have more info

    Definitely get retested...

I found thebody.com and poz.com to both be good online resources but in no way circumvent a strong support system of friends and family.

Be well and be gentle with yourself ... there will be enough people trying to tear you down. You don't need to add fuel to the fire by beating yourself down too!

    Peace

I would suggest you get retested first - then try a few sites - to get the best information about the next step after you ARE CONFIRMED that you are really HIV+.

    www.poz.com is a good source. . .
in phoenix - you might consider - http://swhiv.org/

If you have any questions or just need to chat - I am around and of course I am sure alot of the guys that responded would be happy to answer questions.

Its a manageable disease - just get help ASAP - you need to mentally get back into a good place so you don't suffer long term physical harm.

    Good Luck

I am sorry to hear that. If you only swallowed one guy and he tests negative and you dont seems odd to me. If youve retested and youre still pos then it would seem that maybe the virus has gotten to him yet. Any other partners you can tink about having tested or informing?

Poz.com has a lot of info.

You will now start dealing with a chronically manageble disease. You will live a long life and you will find happiness. Although you may not feel that right now. Things will look up for you. I know youll hear alot about being on top of your game and staying upbeat but honestly itll help.

    Best of luck.

I work in a clinic in Maine. I have had two false positives. Get in touch with your local clinic, get tested again, and if the result is positive, they should give you a rundown on referrals. If not ask. We offer free mental health counseling, case management that will help you enroll in things like ADAP which is a drug assistance program. Do not wait. It will only prey on your mind, and early detection is vital to living a very healthy and "normal" (whatever that is) life. I commend you for coming forward and asking for info. I have seen this disease change many lives. I recently had a client tell me..........if he could be who he was before he had HIV, he would rather be who he is today with it. I thought that was one hell of a statement. Get in to counseling soon. It will be healthy.

I am so sorry about your diagnosis, but it is not the end of the world for you. My brother died from AIDS in the 90's, and my best friend as well. Now there are medications that will keep you up and running. When you are ready, there is so much that you can get involved in, and you will make a difference in other peoples lives.

    You can contact me anytime.

Get retested. How do you know the other guy with whom you had oral is negative? Because he SAID he is? Lot's of guys lie about it. Has he shown you recent negative test results?

It is possible to get HIV from oral, despite the negative info being put out, including on this site. It's a low risk, but possible. Furthermore, the guy doesn't have to cum in your mouth; the virus can be present in his urethra, and pass into your mouth, especially with precum. Did you ever suck any other guys, whether to orgasm or not? You may have had this for longer than you realized.

So first get retested, and go from there. And good luck.

theBody.com is a great resource about HIV/AIDS. I have visited it on more than one occasion while waiting for my test results or a friend's.

And not too personal a question, I hope, but since sex is not the only way a person can contract HIV.... you never shot dope, did you? Never received treatment for hemophilia with unheated plasma products did you? Never got exposed to someone's blood or anything like that right? If not, I'd definitely get tested again.

Project Inform (projectinform.org) is a great resource to get in touch with and stay in touch. They 've been around since the worst days and have done phenomenal work on treatment, education and advocacy.

I agree with other posters. Get tested again. False positives are possible. Also get your T cells tested. . A full CD profile will give your doc a better overall picture.

You have to fallow this sequence.

ELISA for HIV “ the test you had”
Western blot “confirmatory test” if it is positive then
    CD4 count
    Viral load

Find a HIV specialist in your area,

I'd have to agree with everyone who's telling you to get retested. If everything you said was accurate, it seems highly improbable for you to catch HIV.
